The Nintendo Switch 2 appears poised to become a powerhouse for major third-party ports, and Ubisoft may be positioning its flagship Assassin's Creed Shadows as a key launch window title. During a recent earnings call Q&A session, Ubisoft executives dropped significant hints pointing towards a Switch 2 version of the Feudal Japan-set blockbuster.

Chief Financial Officer Frederick Duguet stated the company has "a game that will be launched on the Switch 2" among other unannounced "paid content of strong quality" coming later this year. CEO Yves Guillemot provided further context specifically regarding Assassin's Creed Shadows, noting, "we have some new versions that will come on other machines" beyond the upcoming Claws of Awaji DLC expansion.

While Ubisoft declined to explicitly confirm the Switch 2 port when pressed later in the call, the phrasing strongly suggests Shadows is the title in question. The Switch 2 is the only significant new dedicated gaming 'machine' platform launching this year. A port to iPhone or Mac seems unlikely to generate the revenue impact Ubisoft anticipates for its second fiscal half.

This potential port follows Ubisoft's confirmed September 4 release date for Star Wars Outlaws on Switch 2. Strategically, a November launch window for Assassin's Creed Shadows on the platform would provide breathing room between the two major Ubisoft releases while capitalizing on the critical holiday shopping season. It would significantly bolster the Switch 2's early lineup, marking one of the most substantial AAA third-party commitments Nintendo's hardware has seen at launch in years.

The move signals Ubisoft's confidence in the Switch 2's technical capabilities to handle its expansive, visually demanding open-world title. It also underscores a strategic shift, with the publisher actively investing in making its biggest franchises day-one releases on Nintendo's new system rather than late ports. If executed well, a performant Shadows port could be a major system-seller for the Switch 2 and a pivotal moment for third-party support on Nintendo platforms.
