Anthropic secures $30 billion in Series G funding at a staggering $380 billion valuation, despite being unprofitable and burning through cash to develop AI models. Investors are pouring another $30 billion into Anthropic, the AI company behind the Claude chatbot, in a Series G funding round that values the company at a staggering $380 billion post-money. This latest investment underscores the continued exuberance in the AI sector, where companies are attracting massive valuations despite being far from profitable.

The funding round comes as Anthropic continues to burn through cash to fund its AI model development and has made billions in commitments for compute and infrastructure. The company began generating revenue less than three years ago but claims its run-rate revenue has grown over 10x annually in each of the past three years, reaching $14 billion today.
A significant portion of this revenue growth is being driven by Claude Code, Anthropic's agentic coding model. The company reports that business subscriptions to Claude Code have quadrupled since the start of 2026, with enterprise usage accounting for more than half of all Claude Code revenue. According to recent reports, 4 percent of GitHub public commits are now authored by Claude Code, with optimistic projections suggesting this could reach over 20 percent of daily commits by the end of 2026.
However, these projections warrant caution. Developers are unlikely to surrender production workloads or even personal projects to machine-generated code without significant debate and oversight. The quality of AI-generated code remains a concern, as evidenced by recent experiments with Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.6 model. In one notable case, the model spent approximately $20,000 trying to write a C compiler, ultimately producing Rust code that a researcher characterized as "reasonable" but "nowhere near" expert level.
The bigger question facing Anthropic and its investors is what the company will ultimately need to charge to deliver returns. With such massive investments and infrastructure commitments, the pressure to monetize at scale is immense. Unlike some of its competitors, Anthropic has committed to keeping advertising out of the Claude model family, even as it has run marketing campaigns joking about the idea of inserting ads into chatbot conversations.
This funding round comes against the backdrop of intense competition in the AI space. OpenAI, Anthropic's main rival, achieved a nominal value of $500 billion last year, with projections suggesting this could hit $750 billion or more in 2026. SoftBank announced a $22.5 billion investment in OpenAI as 2025 drew to a close, highlighting the massive capital flows into the sector.
The continued influx of capital into AI companies like Anthropic raises questions about the sustainability of current valuations and business models. While the technology shows promise and revenue growth is impressive, the path to profitability remains unclear. Investors are essentially betting that these companies will figure out how to monetize their technology at scales that justify current valuations, even as they continue to burn through billions in development and infrastructure costs.
As the AI bubble continues to inflate, the industry faces a critical juncture. The massive investments being made today will shape the future of AI development and deployment, but they also create enormous pressure for returns. Whether companies like Anthropic can deliver on the lofty expectations set by these valuations remains to be seen.
