YC-backed Artie, a real-time data streaming startup, is hiring its first in-house recruiter to own full-cycle hiring across engineering, product, and design roles as the company scales.

Artie, a Y Combinator-backed startup building real-time data streaming infrastructure, is seeking its first in-house recruiter to own talent acquisition as the company scales. The role offers a unique opportunity to build Artie's recruiting function from the ground up while working directly with founders to shape the company's culture and hiring bar.

What Artie Does

Artie provides a real-time streaming platform that moves production data across systems with zero maintenance. Unlike traditional ETL solutions that rely on batched processes or schedulers (DAGs, Airflow), Artie leverages change data capture (CDC) and stream processing to achieve sub-minute latency for data transfers.

The platform serves mission-critical use cases including fraud and risk monitoring, inventory visibility, customer-facing analytics, and AI workloads. Artie is designed for engineering teams that prioritize performance, reliability, and operational simplicity.

The Role: Founding Recruiter

This isn't a coordination or "run the ATS" position. Artie is looking for someone who will own full-cycle recruiting across the company, with primary focus on Engineering, Product, Operations, and Design (EPOD) roles. The ideal candidate will partner directly with founders and hiring managers to define role scope, calibrate candidate quality, and continuously refine interview processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Running end-to-end hiring for technical and design roles
  • Proactively sourcing senior technical talent through creative outbound strategies
  • Crafting compelling narratives about Artie's mission and team
  • Building recruiting infrastructure from scratch
  • Managing external recruiting partners as a strategic complement to in-house efforts

What They're Looking For

The ideal candidate brings 4+ years of recruiting experience with meaningful exposure to technical recruiting and early-stage startups (Series A–C preferred). Artie emphasizes that this person should have "strong technical intuition" - not necessarily able to code, but capable of recruiting engineers and building credibility with senior technical candidates.

Beyond technical recruiting chops, Artie seeks someone with a sales mindset who views recruiting as persuasion and outbound work. The role demands extreme ownership, with candidates expected to take responsibility for outcomes rather than just inputs. Artie also values taste, judgment, and integrity - someone who knows when to push, when to pause, and when to say no.

The position requires in-person work five days per week at Artie's San Francisco office, with comfort operating in a high-speed, ambiguous environment with minimal structure.

Compensation and Growth

Artie offers competitive compensation with a philosophy of targeting P75-90 for base salary and P90+ for equity compared to benchmarks. The role includes healthcare, 401(k) matching, unlimited PTO, and meals provided. Beyond compensation, Artie emphasizes the foundational impact of this role - the successful candidate will shape the team, culture, and hiring bar at the company.

There's also a clear growth path, with opportunity to evolve into a Head of Talent or recruiting leader as Artie scales. The company describes this as a high-trust environment where the recruiter will be treated as a core operator rather than a support function.

Company Context

Artie was founded in 2023 and participated in Y Combinator's S23 batch. The company has grown to a team of 10 and is actively hiring. Artie has attracted backing from top-tier investors including General Catalyst, Pathlight Ventures, and the founders of Dropbox and Mode. The platform is already trusted by teams like ClickUp, Substack, and Alloy.

For candidates interested in the technical details, Artie's approach addresses a fundamental limitation of traditional ETL: batch-based processing cannot achieve true real-time data synchronization. By leveraging CDC and stream processing, Artie enables the sub-minute latency that modern data-intensive applications require.

Application Process

The interview process includes a hiring manager call (30 mins), a working session (30 mins), a take-home case study, and an on-site interview. Artie emphasizes direct founder partnership, with the successful candidate working closely with the CEO and CTO.

The role represents a significant opportunity for an experienced recruiter looking to make a foundational impact at a well-funded, early-stage startup with strong technical differentiation and market traction.
