Asus has unveiled the PE1000U, a fanless mini PC designed for industrial edge computing with MIL-STD810H certification, Intel Core Ultra Series 2 processors, and up to four Ethernet ports.
Asus has introduced the PE1000U, a new fanless mini PC designed specifically for industrial edge computing applications. The compact system features a rugged MIL-STD810H certified enclosure that can withstand harsh environments while delivering capable performance through Intel's latest Core Ultra Series 2 processors.
Intel Core Ultra Series 2 Options
The PE1000U offers two CPU configurations, both featuring 12 cores but from different Intel architectures. Customers can choose between the Core Ultra 7 265U and the Core Ultra 5 235U. Despite sharing the same 200-series branding, these chips represent distinct processor families.
The Core Ultra 7 265U belongs to Intel's newer Arrow Lake-U family, while the Core Ultra 5 235U is part of the Meteor Lake-U family. In synthetic benchmarks, the 265U demonstrates a modest but noticeable 12% performance advantage over the 235U in multi-core workloads. Performance-wise, the 265U delivers roughly equivalent power to Apple's M2 SoC, making it suitable for demanding industrial applications.
Both processors are 15W chips that rely entirely on passive cooling, eliminating the need for fans and reducing potential points of failure in industrial environments. For light-to-moderate workloads, either CPU configuration should provide more than sufficient performance.
Industrial-Grade Connectivity
True to its industrial focus, the PE1000U packs extensive I/O options. The system includes four USB 3.2 Type-A ports for peripheral connectivity, with support for up to four COM ports for serial communication. The standout feature is the ability to support up to four Ethernet ports, with dual 2.5G Ethernet as standard.
Additional connectivity includes HDMI 2.0 and DisplayPort outputs for multi-monitor setups. The mini PC also offers several expansion options: M.2 E and B-key slots for WiFi and cellular connectivity, an M.2 2280 M-key slot supporting PCIe Gen 4 for solid-state storage, a 2.5-inch drive bay for additional storage, and built-in dual CAN bus support for industrial automation applications.
Memory is handled through dual SODIMM slots supporting up to 64GB of DDR5-6400 RAM, providing ample capacity for memory-intensive industrial workloads.
Compact and Durable Design
Measuring just 63 x 110 x 160 mm and weighing approximately 1 kg (2.2 lbs), the PE1000U maintains a compact footprint suitable for space-constrained industrial environments. The rugged MIL-STD810H certification ensures the system can withstand shock, vibration, extreme temperatures, and other harsh conditions commonly encountered in industrial settings.
Availability and Pricing
As is typical for industrial-focused hardware, pricing and availability details for the PE1000U are not publicly available. Interested customers will likely need to contact Asus sales directly for quotes, which may vary based on order volume and specific configuration requirements.
For general consumers seeking powerful compact computing solutions, the Apple Mac mini remains a compelling alternative, currently priced at $549 on Amazon and offering significantly more processing power for everyday tasks.

The PE1000U represents Asus's continued push into the industrial computing market, combining fanless operation, rugged durability, and modern connectivity options in a compact form factor. Its combination of Intel's latest processors, extensive I/O options, and MIL-STD810H certification makes it well-suited for edge computing applications where reliability and connectivity are paramount.
