Framework Computer, known for their modular laptops and Ryzen AI Max desktop, has become a KDE Patron, joining other major supporters in funding the popular open-source desktop environment.

Framework Computer, the company behind the popular modular Framework laptops and the Ryzen AI Max 'Strix Halo' Framework Desktop, has announced they are stepping up their support for the KDE community by becoming a KDE Patron.

This sponsorship commitment positions Framework as one of the latest open-source organizations receiving direct financial support from the computer manufacturer, which has gained significant popularity among open-source and Linux enthusiasts for their upgrade-friendly hardware designs.

Becoming a KDE Patron requires companies with 50 employees or fewer to contribute at least 5,000 EUR per year, while organizations larger than 50 employees must contribute 10,000 EUR annually. Framework Computer now joins an impressive list of KDE Patron organizations that includes Blue Systems, Canonical, Google, Kubuntu Focus, Rocky Linux, SUSE, The Qt Company, and TUXEDO Computers.

The announcement of Framework becoming a KDE Patron can be found on KDE.org, highlighting the growing relationship between the hardware manufacturer and the open-source software community.

This move demonstrates Framework's continued commitment to supporting open-source ecosystems beyond just providing hardware. In addition to KDE, the company has been sponsoring numerous other open-source projects including Xfce, NetBSD, FreeBSD, NixOS, Hyperland, LVFS, and many others.

For KDE community members, this additional funding from Framework Computer will help support the ongoing development and maintenance of the popular desktop environment, potentially accelerating new features and improvements in future releases.

Framework's hardware has gained particular attention in the Linux community for its repairability and upgrade options, with users able to easily swap components like the mainboard, expansion cards, and even the keyboard. Their Ryzen AI Max 'Strix Halo' Framework Desktop has also been praised for its performance in open-source environments.
