Google's Pixel 10a maintains last year's core specs while adding eco-friendly materials, improved durability, and 30W charging, launching at the same $500 price point.
Google has unveiled the Pixel 10a, its latest budget-friendly smartphone that continues the company's commitment to sustainability while maintaining competitive pricing. The new device arrives with several environmental improvements but keeps the same Tensor G4 chipset from last year's model.
Eco-friendly design with recycled materials
The Pixel 10a sets a new standard for recycled content in Google's a-series lineup. The phone incorporates recycled cobalt, copper, gold, and tungsten, representing at least 36% of the device's total weight. The aluminum frame is made from 100% recycled material, and the packaging is completely plastic-free.
Familiar performance with Tensor G4
Powering the Pixel 10a is the same Tensor G4 chipset that appeared in the Pixel 9a and other Pixel 9-series devices. Built on Samsung's 4nm process, the chip delivers identical performance to last year's model. The phone comes with 8GB of RAM and storage options of 128GB or 256GB.
Enhanced durability and display
Google has upgraded the screen protection with Gorilla Glass 7i, replacing last year's Gorilla Glass 3. This new glass can survive drops from 1 meter (3.3 feet) and offers improved scratch resistance. The 6.3-inch Actua display maintains the same specifications but sees a brightness boost to 3,000 nits peak, up from 2,700 nits.
Camera system carries over
The camera setup remains unchanged with a 48MP main sensor and 13MP ultra-wide lens. Google is emphasizing software features to differentiate the camera experience, including Camera Coach (using Gemini for photography tips), Auto Best Take for group shots, and Add Me for blending group photos.
Battery and charging improvements
While the 5,100mAh battery capacity stays the same, charging speeds see a notable upgrade. Wired charging increases to 30W from 23W, and wireless charging improves to 10W from 7.5W. Google claims the battery provides 30 hours of regular use, consistent with the Pixel 9a's performance in testing.
Design and repairability
The Pixel 10a maintains the nearly flush camera island design that has become increasingly rare in modern smartphones. Google has reworked the internal design to make the device easier to repair. The back panel uses plastic made from 81% recycled materials.
Color options and accessories
Available in four colors - Fog, Obsidian, Berry, and Lavender - the Pixel 10a offers a familiar palette with slight variations from last year's Peony and Iris options. Google has designed a new protective case made from 36% recycled plastic, though neither the phone nor case includes magnets.
Pricing and availability
The Pixel 10a launches at $500 for the 128GB model, with the 256GB version priced at $600. In the UK, prices are £500 and £600 respectively, while European pricing starts at €550 for the base model. Indian customers can pre-order starting today at ₹50,000 with launch offers including 24-month no-cost EMI, ₹3,000 exchange bonus, and ₹3,000 cashback on select HDFC Bank Cards.
The phone will be available from March 6 and ships with Android 16, promising seven years of software updates including Pixel Drops that often introduce innovative new features.
Market positioning
With the Pixel 10a, Google appears to be taking a conservative approach, focusing on sustainability and software features rather than hardware upgrades. The device heavily relies on Google's ecosystem, including Gemini assistant and Gemini Live voice control, to differentiate itself from other mid-range competitors.
The pricing strategy keeps the Pixel 10a competitive at $500, though some commenters have noted that the slightly more expensive Pixel 10 might offer better value for those seeking newer hardware.

The Pixel 10a represents Google's continued effort to balance environmental responsibility with affordable smartphone technology, though the unchanged core specifications may leave some potential buyers looking at alternatives or last year's models at discounted prices.
