Telegram announces a comprehensive update featuring a redesigned interface for Android and iOS, automatic group ownership transfer, collectible gift crafting, and enhanced bot capabilities.
Telegram has announced a major update that brings a fully redesigned interface to its Android app, automatic group ownership transfer, a new collectible gift crafting system, and enhanced features for bot developers. The update is rolling out now for Android, iOS, and iPad users who need to update their apps from the official app stores to access the new features.
Redesigned interface for Android users
The most visible change in this update is the new bottom navigation bar for Android users. Telegram has completely redesigned its interface to make navigation and search quicker and more intuitive. The new bottom bar allows users to quickly switch between Chats, Settings, Profile, and other tabs with a single tap.
Beyond the visual changes, Telegram has "completely rebuilt" the interface code to maximize efficiency and increase responsiveness. Users can now head to Settings > Power Saving to maximize performance and extend battery life, giving them more control over how the app performs on their devices.
iOS and iPad enhancements
Telegram users on iOS devices aren't left out of this update. They receive a redesigned media viewer that should make browsing photos and videos more enjoyable. The update also introduces new preview panels for sticker and emoji packs, making it easier to browse and select from Telegram's extensive collection of expressive elements.
User profiles and message selection now feature updated context menus, streamlining common actions like copying, forwarding, or replying to messages. For iPad users specifically, Telegram has introduced a new keyboard shortcut to send messages: ⌘+Enter, making message composition more efficient for those using external keyboards.
Automatic group ownership transfer
One of the most practical additions to this update addresses a common pain point for group administrators. Telegram will now automatically transfer group ownership to one of the group's admins one week after the owner leaves the chat. This feature ensures that groups don't become orphaned when their creator departs.
Group owners will see a confirmation window when leaving a group chat, allowing them to choose a new group owner before departing. Additionally, group owners can transfer ownership to another group member without leaving the chat, providing flexibility in how groups are managed and handed over.
Collectible gift crafting system
In a move that adds a gaming element to the messaging platform, Telegram has introduced a crafting system for collectible gifts. Users can combine existing collectible gifts to create Uncommon, Rare, Epic, or Legendary versions with unique artwork and effects.
The crafting interface allows users to add up to four gifts, with each additional gift increasing their chances of success. Using multiple gifts with the same attributes increases the likelihood that those attributes appear in the final crafted item. This system adds a layer of strategy and collection to Telegram's gift-giving features.
Collectible gifts can be bought and sold via Telegram's Gift Marketplace, creating an economy around these virtual items. This feature transforms simple digital gifts into collectible items with varying rarity and value.
Enhanced bot development capabilities
Bot developers receive new tools to make their creations more engaging and intuitive. They can now add emojis and colors to their buttons, making interfaces more visually appealing and helping to highlight specific actions. This enhancement should lead to more polished and user-friendly bot experiences across the platform.
The update represents Telegram's continued efforts to differentiate itself from competitors by adding unique features that blend messaging, social networking, and gaming elements. With over 900 million monthly active users, these additions could help Telegram maintain its position as one of the world's most popular messaging platforms while attracting new users looking for features beyond basic messaging.

The update is available now through the Google Play Store for Android devices and the App Store for iOS devices. Users should ensure they're running the latest version to access all the new features and improvements.
