Xiaomi prepares to release the Bluetooth Speaker Essential globally, featuring Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity and IP66 water resistance certification.
Xiaomi is preparing to launch its Bluetooth Speaker Essential globally, marking the company's expansion of its audio lineup beyond China. The speaker, which recently appeared on Xiaomi's global website, represents a tweaked version of the Redmi Bluetooth Speaker 2 that debuted in China last September.
The Bluetooth Speaker Essential isn't simply a rebranded version of its predecessor. The most significant upgrade is the inclusion of Bluetooth 6.0 connectivity, replacing the Bluetooth 5.3 standard found in the Redmi model. This newer Bluetooth version typically offers improved connection stability, better power efficiency, and enhanced audio quality when paired with compatible devices.
However, the upgrade to Bluetooth 6.0 comes with a trade-off in water resistance. While the Redmi Bluetooth Speaker 2 boasts an IP67 certification, allowing it to be submerged in up to one meter of water, the Bluetooth Speaker Essential carries an IP66 rating. This means the new model can withstand powerful water jets but cannot be fully immersed in water like its predecessor.

In terms of audio performance, the Bluetooth Speaker Essential delivers 5 watts of rated power, matching the output of Xiaomi's Sound Pocket speaker. The device features a 1.5-inch driver paired with a passive radiator to enhance bass response. Powering these components is a 1,000 mAh battery that provides up to 10 hours of playback at 40% volume. Users should note that battery life drops significantly to approximately 2.5 hours when operating at maximum volume.
The speaker offers versatile connectivity options. Beyond wireless Bluetooth operation, users can connect via the USB Type-C port for wired audio playback. Xiaomi has also incorporated multi-speaker functionality, allowing synchronized playback across up to 10 speakers simultaneously or stereo pairing between two units for a more immersive audio experience.

While pricing and exact availability dates remain undisclosed, the appearance of the Bluetooth Speaker Essential on Xiaomi's global website suggests a worldwide release is imminent. The speaker's design includes a practical attachment feature, allowing it to be easily secured to bags for portable use.
This launch represents Xiaomi's continued expansion into the global audio market, building on the success of its Redmi-branded speakers in China. The company appears to be targeting budget-conscious consumers who want modern connectivity features without breaking the bank, though the IP66 certification indicates this model may be better suited for indoor use or protection against splashes rather than full water immersion activities.
For the latest updates on pricing and availability, interested buyers should monitor Xiaomi's official website and regional product announcements.
