Apple has just released developer beta 2 for iPadOS 26.5, watchOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and other operating systems, bringing new features like RCS messaging and Suggested Places to the latest beta builds.
Apple has just released new betas. Developer beta 2 is now available for iPadOS 26.5, watchOS 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and more.

Apple releases iPadOS 26.5 beta 2 and more
New beta versions of Apple's forthcoming 26.5 software updates have arrived. If you're on the developer beta, Apple has just released beta 2 for iOS 26.5 and macOS 26.5 alongside:
- iPadOS 26.5
- watchOS 26.5
- tvOS 26.5
- visionOS 26.5
- HomePod 26.5
There are no public beta versions available yet. However, Apple is expected to debut these same software releases for public beta testers in the next day or so.
The first round of 26.5 betas included support for RCS end-to-end encrypted messaging in the Messages app, a new Suggested Places feature for Apple Maps, and some smaller changes. Unfortunately, evidence of Siri's AI upgrades was notably absent from 26.5 beta 1.
While it very much seems like Apple's big Siri changes are waiting for iOS 27, we'll let you know if anything new is discovered in today's beta 2 releases.
Based on Apple's usual timelines, we're expecting iPadOS 26.5 and the other 26.5 updates to launch publicly in mid-May.

What's new in iPadOS 26.5 beta 2
The second beta of iPadOS 26.5 doesn't appear to introduce major new features, but focuses on refinements and bug fixes from the first beta. Developers testing the update should pay attention to performance improvements and any changes to the RCS messaging implementation.
RCS messaging support
One of the headline features in iPadOS 26.5 is the addition of RCS (Rich Communication Services) support in the Messages app. This brings enhanced messaging capabilities between iPhone and Android devices, including:
- High-quality media sharing
- Read receipts and typing indicators
- Improved group chat functionality
- End-to-end encryption for messages between compatible devices
This feature has been highly anticipated as it bridges the gap between iMessage and standard SMS/MMS, providing a more consistent messaging experience across platforms.
Suggested Places in Apple Maps
The new Suggested Places feature in Apple Maps aims to provide more personalized recommendations based on your location, time of day, and search history. This could include nearby restaurants, coffee shops, or points of interest that match your preferences and habits.
Developer considerations
For developers, the 26.5 beta cycle provides an opportunity to test apps against the latest OS versions and ensure compatibility. Key areas to focus on include:
- Testing RCS messaging functionality if your app integrates with Messages
- Verifying location-based features work correctly with the new Suggested Places API
- Checking performance optimizations specific to each platform
- Ensuring accessibility features function as expected
Timeline and expectations
Apple typically follows a predictable beta release schedule:
- Developer betas released first
- Public betas follow within days
- Golden Master (final beta) approximately one week before public release
- Public release typically in mid-May for x.5 updates
Based on this pattern, we can expect:
- Public beta 1 around April 14-15
- Additional developer betas throughout April
- Public release around May 12-14
How to install the betas
Developer beta 2 is available now through the Apple Developer Center. To install:
- Enroll your device in the Apple Developer Program
- Download the beta profile from the developer portal
- Install the profile on your device
- Check for software updates in Settings
Remember that beta software may contain bugs and stability issues, so it's recommended to install on a secondary device rather than your primary one.
The absence of Siri's AI upgrades in this beta cycle suggests Apple is saving major changes for iOS 27, which is expected to be a significant update focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities across the ecosystem.
As testing continues, we'll keep you updated on any new features or changes discovered in subsequent beta releases.
