AYANEO Discontinues More Handhelds as Component Costs Spike

AYANEO is discontinuing several handheld gaming PCs and limiting production on others as rising RAM and storage costs make current pricing unsustainable through 2026.

AYANEO is hitting pause on multiple handheld gaming PC models as component costs continue to climb, forcing the company to make tough decisions about which devices can remain viable in the current market. The Chinese manufacturer, known for its premium handheld gaming computers, announced this week that several models will be discontinued or have severely limited availability due to unsustainable pricing pressures.

The most immediate impact hits AYANEO's AYANEO Pocket Vert and AYANEO Pocket S Mini, which will be discontinued once current limited stock sells out. These compact handhelds, designed for portable gaming, join the AYANEO NEXT 2 in facing production halts, though the NEXT 2's discontinuation stems from different circumstances.

Earlier this month, AYANEO suspended new pre-orders for the AYANEO NEXT 2, its flagship handheld featuring the AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 Strix Halo processor. The company cited unsustainable component costs, particularly for RAM and storage, as the primary reason. With prices ranging from $1,999 to $4,299, the NEXT 2 represents AYANEO's most expensive offering, and even at those premium price points, the company couldn't maintain profitability.

RAM and storage prices are expected to remain elevated through much of 2026 and into 2027, creating a challenging environment for handheld manufacturers who rely on these components. The situation has forced AYANEO to reevaluate its entire product lineup.

The AYANEO Pocket DS, another compact handheld, remains available for pre-order but with extremely limited quantities. Only about 200 units remain available, and once those sell out, it's unclear whether AYANEO will produce another batch. This scarcity reflects the company's cautious approach to inventory management amid uncertain component costs.

For users who already own AYANEO devices, the company is ending a special promotion on April 1st. Earlier this year, AYANEO offered customers who purchased the AYANEO Pocket S Mini a choice between canceling their order or receiving a free Pocket Air Mini after the company revealed the device would have a smaller-than-expected battery. This "surprise gift" promotion will no longer be available after the April deadline.

Production Adjustments and Relaunches

Some models are seeing production adjustments rather than complete discontinuation. The AYANEO KONKR Pocket FIT Gen 3 and Pocket FIT 8 Elite will be "relaunched in phases" after current orders ship. The KONKR FIT production is set to begin soon, with AYANEO emphasizing that production numbers "will be limited and based on actual order volume." This approach allows the company to match supply more closely with demand while managing component costs.

While AYANEO hasn't provided specific details about which remaining models will see price increases, the company has confirmed that prices for some products still in production are expected to rise. The lack of transparency about which models and by how much creates uncertainty for potential buyers considering AYANEO devices in the coming months.

Industry-Wide Component Challenges

The situation at AYANEO reflects broader challenges facing the handheld gaming PC market. As these devices become more powerful, incorporating higher-resolution displays, faster processors, and larger storage capacities, they become increasingly sensitive to component price fluctuations. Unlike smartphones or traditional gaming consoles, handheld gaming PCs often use premium components that mirror those found in high-end laptops, making them vulnerable to the same market pressures.

For consumers, this means fewer options in the handheld gaming PC market and potentially higher prices for the devices that remain available. It also raises questions about the long-term viability of premium handheld gaming PCs as a product category, particularly for smaller manufacturers who may lack the purchasing power to negotiate favorable component pricing during market volatility.

The discontinuation of multiple AYANEO models serves as a reminder of the fragile economics underlying the handheld gaming PC market, where innovation and performance come at the cost of price sensitivity and supply chain vulnerability.
