itel has quietly launched three new rugged smartphones - the City 200, A200, and A200+ - featuring 120Hz displays, IP65 water resistance, MIL-STD-810H durability testing, and the Unisoc T7250 chipset. The City 200 stands out with its 50MP rear camera, 8MP punch-hole selfie camera, and 5,200mAh battery rated for 1,600 charge cycles.
itel has quietly unveiled three new rugged smartphones - the City 200, A200, and A200+ - bringing impressive durability features to the budget segment. All three models share a common foundation: 120Hz 720p+ displays, IP65 water and dust resistance, MIL-STD-810H certification, and the 4G-only Unisoc T7250 chipset.
itel City 200: The Flagship Rugged Model
The City 200 sits at the top of the new lineup with premium features for its category. It boasts a 6.78-inch display with 700 nits peak brightness and an 8MP punch-hole selfie camera - a notable upgrade from the notched designs on the other models. The rear houses a 50MP main camera capable of simultaneous front-and-back recording in picture-in-picture mode, though video resolution specifications weren't disclosed.
Powering the device is a 5,200mAh battery rated for 1,600 charge cycles, which itel claims translates to approximately four years of normal usage. The phone measures just 7.45mm thick and comes in four colors: Vibe Purple, Bass Black, Echo Silver, and Melody Pink.
itel A200 and A200+: The Value-Focused Variants
The A200 and A200+ share a 6.75-inch 120Hz display with a waterdrop notch housing a 5MP selfie camera. The rear camera is downgraded to 13MP compared to the City 200's 50MP sensor. The key differentiator between these two models is battery capacity and charging speed:
- itel A200: 5,000mAh battery with 15W charging
- itel A200+: 6,000mAh battery with 18W charging
Both models maintain the same 8.29mm thickness despite the battery difference, with itel not disclosing weight specifications. They come in Comet Orange, Nightly Blue, and Meteor Titanium, with the A200+ adding an Aura White option.
Software and Memory Configurations
Memory configurations vary significantly across the lineup:
- City 200: 4GB/6GB RAM with 128GB/256GB storage, running full Android 15
- A200/A200+: 3GB/4GB RAM with 64GB/128GB storage, running Android 15 Go Edition
This distinction means the City 200 offers a more complete Android experience with access to all apps and features, while the A200 models are optimized for entry-level hardware with lighter software.
Durability and Unique Features
All three models undergo rigorous testing, including 1.5m drop tests for the City 200 and 1.8m for the A200 variants. The IP65 rating ensures protection against dust ingress and water jets, making them suitable for challenging environments.
A standout feature across the lineup is UltraLink Free Call, which enables voice calls, voice memos, and text notes without cellular connectivity. itel claims this feature works up to 2km under ideal conditions, potentially useful in areas with poor network coverage.
Market Positioning and Competition
The itel City 200 and its siblings appear positioned to compete with other rugged budget phones like the recently announced itel Super 26 Ultra (with curved AMOLED and 6,000mAh battery) and the itel Power 70 (focused on battery life). The 120Hz displays at this price point are particularly noteworthy, as they're typically found on more expensive devices.
The combination of durability features, modern display technology, and capable cameras at budget prices suggests itel is targeting users who need reliable devices for demanding environments without breaking the bank. The simultaneous front-and-back recording capability could appeal to content creators or field workers who need to capture multiple perspectives at once.
Pricing and availability details haven't been announced yet, but given itel's market positioning, these devices are expected to launch at competitive price points in emerging markets where rugged, reliable smartphones are in high demand.
