Motorola has set May 13, 2026, as the India launch date for the Razr Fold, its first book-style foldable smartphone, following a confirmation earlier this month that the device would arrive in the country without a specified timeline. The book-style form factor, which unfolds into a tablet-like screen, marks a departure from Motorola’s previous clamshell-style Razr foldables sold in India.

The Razr Fold is already listed on the Motorola India website with two storage configurations: 12GB of RAM paired with 256GB of internal storage, and 16GB of RAM with 512GB of storage. Buyers can choose from three color options: Pantone-validated Blackened Blue and Lily White, plus a FIFA World Cup 2026 Edition with a black base color, tying into the upcoming global football tournament co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Sales will run through Flipkart and unspecified "leading retail stores" across India, though Motorola has not yet shared pricing details or open pre-order dates for the Indian market. The brand noted that pre-orders for the Razr Fold are already live in the UK and Europe, signaling a phased global rollout.

Key Hardware Specifications

Motorola is highlighting the Razr Fold’s camera performance ahead of launch, after the device earned the top spot for foldables and 8th place overall in DXOMARK’s global smartphone camera rankings. The camera array includes three 50MP sensors: a 1/1.28-inch main sensor for improved low-light capture, a 3x periscope telephoto lens (71mm equivalent focal length, 1/1.95-inch sensor) for zoomed shots and portraits, and a 122-degree ultra-wide lens for landscape and group photos. All three lenses support 4K video recording and HDR capture.

The foldable features two displays with LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) technology, which adjusts refresh rates dynamically to balance smoothness and battery life. The inner main display measures 8.1 inches diagonally, with a 120Hz maximum refresh rate, Dolby Vision, and HDR10+ support for high-dynamic-range content. The outer cover display, used when the phone is folded, is 6.6 inches with a 165Hz maximum refresh rate, also supporting Dolby Vision and HDR10+. The higher refresh rate on the cover display makes animations and scrolling feel smoother for quick tasks like checking notifications or sending messages without unfolding the device.

Power comes from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 mobile platform, Qualcomm’s flagship processor for 2026, which delivers high performance for split-screen multitasking, mobile gaming, and on-device AI features. A 6000mAh battery, larger than most competing book-style foldables, supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging, reducing downtime for heavy users.

The Razr Fold also carries dual IP ratings: IP48 and IP49. The first digit (4) indicates protection against solid foreign objects larger than 1mm, such as small tools or wires, addressing a common pain point for foldables where dust can enter the hinge mechanism. The second digit 8 means the device can withstand continuous immersion in water up to 1.5 meters deep for 30 minutes, while 9 adds protection against high-pressure, high-temperature water jets, making it resistant to rain, splashes from taps, and accidental spills.

Ecosystem and Market Context

The Razr Fold enters a growing Indian foldable smartphone market, where brands like Samsung, Google, and OnePlus have already launched book-style models. Motorola’s existing Razr lineup in India consists of clamshell-style flip foldables, so the Razr Fold expands the brand’s portfolio to compete directly in the premium book-style segment, which typically sells for upwards of ₹1.5 lakh in India.

The Pantone color partnership positions the Razr Fold as a style-focused device, not just a specs-driven one, while the FIFA World Cup 2026 Edition is a targeted marketing play to reach football fans ahead of the tournament later in 2026. Motorola’s decision to launch in India after rolling out pre-orders in Western markets aligns with the country’s status as one of the fastest-growing premium smartphone markets globally, with high demand for large-screen devices and foldable form factors.

Pricing for the Indian market has not been announced, but based on European pricing (where the 12/256GB model starts at €1,299), the Razr Fold is expected to sit in the premium segment. Buyers can expect more details on pricing and availability when Motorola holds its launch event on May 13.
