Leaked CAD renders reveal the Galaxy Z Fold8's design, showing minimal changes from its predecessor with key upgrades to battery, charging, and camera.

New CAD-based renders of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 have leaked, offering our first detailed look at the foldable device's design. The renders, shared by tipster @chunvn8888, show a device that closely resembles its predecessor, the Galaxy Z Fold7, with identical display sizes and a familiar form factor.

According to the leaked specifications, the Fold8 will feature a 5,000 mAh battery, representing a significant 600 mAh increase over the Fold7's 4,400 mAh capacity. This upgrade addresses one of the most common criticisms of foldable phones - battery life. The device will also support 45W wired charging, doubling the charging speed from the previous generation's 25W.

The camera system is getting a substantial upgrade as well, with the ultrawide camera jumping from 12MP to 50MP. This change suggests Samsung is focusing on improving the versatility of the camera system, which could be particularly useful for the Fold8's unique form factor that allows for creative photography angles.

In terms of dimensions, the Fold8 allegedly measures 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5 mm when unfolded, and 158.4 x 72.8 x 9 mm when folded. The source notes these are "approximate dimensions," and while they suggest the device might be slightly thicker than its predecessor, it's possible the final product could be thinner or match the Fold7's thickness exactly.

The camera bump appears to be about 5.5mm thick, which is notable for a device that's already quite substantial when folded. This could impact how the phone feels in hand and how it sits on surfaces when placed face-up.

Perhaps most interestingly, the price is expected to remain identical to the Fold7's, which would make this one of the few recent flagship launches where Samsung isn't increasing the price despite the hardware upgrades. This could be a strategic move to make foldables more accessible as the market matures.

The design continuity between generations isn't surprising - foldable phones have reached a point where the basic form factor is well-established, and radical redesigns could compromise the user experience. However, the internal upgrades suggest Samsung is focusing on refining the foldable experience rather than reinventing it.

These leaks come amid reports that Samsung expects the Galaxy Z Fold8 to outsell its Z Flip8 sibling for the first time, indicating growing consumer interest in larger foldable devices. The company is also reportedly working on a "wide Fold" variant with an even bigger battery than the standard Fold8.

As with all leaks, these specifications and renders should be taken with caution until Samsung officially unveils the device, which is typically in August. The company has been known to make last-minute changes to specifications or design elements before final production.
