Weekly Poll: Is the vivo X300 Ultra a Phone Worth the Premium Price?

The vivo X300 Ultra launches with impressive camera specs and a massive battery, but its high price tag raises questions about value in the premium smartphone market.

The vivo X300 Ultra has officially landed, bringing with it a camera system that would make even professional photographers take notice. But with a price tag that puts it firmly in flagship territory, the question remains: is this the phone you'd actually buy, or just admire from afar?

The X300 Ultra represents vivo's most ambitious global push yet. Unlike its predecessors, the X100 Ultra and X200 Ultra, which remained exclusive to China, this model is set for international release. In China, the base 12GB/256GB configuration starts at CNY 7,000 (approximately $1,020 / £775 / €885 / ₹95,000) and began shipping on April 5th.

For European markets, we can expect significantly higher prices. The X300 Pro with 16GB/512GB currently retails for €1,400 (with a €100 discount), suggesting the Ultra will likely exceed €1,500. This positions it among the most expensive smartphones available, competing directly with Samsung's Ultra models and Apple's Pro Max offerings.

Where the X300 Ultra truly differentiates itself is in its camera hardware. The triple-lens system features 14mm, 35mm, and 85mm focal lengths, with the main and telephoto sensors both packing 200MP resolution. The main sensor measures 1/1.12 inches while the telephoto uses a 1/1.4-inch sensor - both substantially larger than what you'll find in competing flagships.

But vivo isn't stopping there. The optional Photographer Kit includes two teleconverter lenses developed with Zeiss: the G2 (200mm) and G2 Ultra (400mm). Interestingly, these accessories aren't exclusive to the Ultra model - the G2 works with select X300 models and the X200 Ultra, while the G2 Ultra will support the X300 Pro and X200 Ultra. This cross-compatibility suggests vivo is building an ecosystem approach to mobile photography.

The battery specifications are equally impressive. A 6,600mAh silicon-carbon battery supports 100W wired and 40W wireless charging. However, European models will see a slight reduction to 6,400mAh, likely due to regulatory requirements.

Competition is heating up in this premium segment. The Oppo Find X9 Ultra is scheduled for April 21st unveiling, while Honor's Magic8 Ultra remains on the horizon with an unconfirmed launch date. This timing makes the X300 Ultra's release particularly interesting - vivo is staking its claim before its main rivals can respond.

So we're asking: does the X300 Ultra's combination of cutting-edge camera technology, massive battery, and premium build quality justify its likely €1,500+ price tag? Or is it the smartphone equivalent of a supercar - technically impressive but realistically out of reach for most buyers?

What makes the X300 Ultra stand out technically:

  • 200MP main sensor (1/1.12") with 14mm equivalent focal length
  • 200MP telephoto (1/1.4") with 85mm equivalent focal length
  • 35mm equivalent mid-telephoto lens
  • 6,600mAh (6,400mAh EU) silicon-carbon battery
  • 100W wired + 40W wireless charging
  • Zeiss G2 teleconverter lenses (200mm and 400mm)
  • First X Ultra model with global availability

The real question isn't whether the X300 Ultra is technically impressive - it clearly is. The question is whether consumers are willing to pay supercar prices for smartphone photography capabilities that, while extraordinary, may exceed the needs of even enthusiastic mobile photographers.
