Xiaomi has launched its Mi Home Central Air Conditioner with Powerful Duct Unit in China, featuring Level 1 energy efficiency, ultra-fast cooling in 20 seconds, and smart home integration.

Xiaomi has unveiled its latest smart home appliance in China - the Mi Home Central Air Conditioner with Powerful Duct Unit - promising revolutionary cooling speeds and intelligent features that could reshape how we think about home climate control.

The new air conditioning system is currently available for pre-order in China, with the 3HP version starting at CNY 8,199 (approximately $1,179). What sets this model apart is its claimed ability to begin cooling a space in just 20 seconds, or heating in around 60 seconds - speeds that would be unprecedented in the residential air conditioning market.

Energy Efficiency Meets Performance

Beyond its rapid response times, the Xiaomi air conditioner boasts a Level 1 energy efficiency rating in China, with an annual performance factor (APF) of 4.90. This high efficiency rating means the unit should consume less power while delivering superior cooling performance compared to standard models.

The 3HP version delivers an impressive airflow rate of 1,560 m³/h (approximately 55,100 ft³/h), making it suitable for larger spaces or open-plan living areas. This combination of power and efficiency addresses a common trade-off in air conditioning - the ability to cool quickly without dramatically increasing energy bills.

Smart Home Integration and Intelligent Features

True to Xiaomi's smart home philosophy, this air conditioner can connect with the company's ecosystem of devices. Users can control the unit through the Xiaomi app or via Xiao AI voice assistant, allowing for remote management and voice commands.

One of the more innovative features is the optional Mi Home Intelligent Wind Control Panel. This accessory uses integrated sensors to detect people in the room and intelligently direct airflow - either towards or away from detected occupants. This could solve the common problem of cold drafts hitting people directly while still maintaining overall room temperature.

Advanced Filtration Options

The system offers several optional add-ons for improved air quality. These include a fresh air module for bringing in filtered outdoor air, an MIFD filter for capturing fine particles, and a formaldehyde filter for removing volatile organic compounds. These options position the unit as more than just a temperature control device - it's a comprehensive air quality management system.

Design and Availability

The internal unit features a clean white finish with dimensions of 1,250 mm (49.2 inches) in length and 198 mm (7.8 inches) in height. This relatively compact profile should make it suitable for various installation scenarios without dominating the room's aesthetic.

Currently, the air conditioner is only available in China through Xiaomi's Youpin platform. The company hasn't announced plans for international release, though Xiaomi's European presence through products like the Mijia Air Conditioner Pro Eco (available in Spain for €599) suggests potential for future expansion.

Market Context and Competition

If Xiaomi brings this technology to global markets, it could disrupt the premium air conditioning segment. The combination of ultra-fast cooling, smart features, and energy efficiency at a competitive price point challenges established brands that typically charge premiums for similar capabilities.

The 20-second cooling claim, if verified in real-world conditions, would be a significant selling point. Most conventional air conditioners take several minutes to noticeably affect room temperature, so this speed advantage could be particularly appealing in regions with extreme heat or for users who frequently adjust their home's temperature.

For now, interested consumers outside China will need to wait and see if Xiaomi expands availability of this innovative air conditioning system to other markets where smart home adoption continues to grow.
