Casio has partnered with Toyota's Gazoo Racing to create a limited-edition G-Shock GA-2100 watch featuring an all-black design with subtle racing accents. The collaboration timepiece combines G-Shock's durability with racing-inspired aesthetics, priced at ¥24,200 in Japan.
Toyota has officially unveiled the design of the new Casio G-Shock x GR watch, a collaboration between the iconic watchmaker and Toyota's high-performance Gazoo Racing division. This limited edition model, the G-Shock x GR GA-2100, represents the latest automotive-inspired timepiece in Casio's extensive lineup of special edition collaborations.

The watch features a striking all-black design with matching face, case, and strap that creates a cohesive, minimalist aesthetic. On the dial, the Gazoo Racing logo appears in a silver tone, elegantly mirrored in the watch's dual analog hands. A subtle but eye-catching detail is the bright red indicator on the day of the week dial positioned at the 9 o'clock position, which provides a pop of color against the monochromatic backdrop.

This collaboration builds upon the existing G-Shock GA-2100 model, which Casio introduced as part of its popular 'CasiOak' line. The standard GA-2100 already features a distinctive octagonal case design inspired by the classic G-Shock DW-5000 from 1983. However, this special edition Gazoo Racing version distinguishes itself through its exclusive color scheme and branding elements.
Technically, the Casio G-Shock x GR GA-2100 maintains all the functionality of the base model. It's a hybrid watch that combines analog hands with a small inset digital display. Users can select from 31 different time zones and choose between 12 or 24-hour formats. Additional features include a countdown timer, a precise 1/100th second stopwatch, and five daily alarms for practical time management.
For visibility in various lighting conditions, the watch includes a double LED backlight system. It also features a fully automatic calendar that accounts for different month lengths and leap years. The 200-meter water resistance rating ensures the watch can handle swimming, snorkeling, and other water activities without issue.

Compared to other racing-themed watches on the market, the G-Shock x GR GA-2100 offers exceptional value at its ¥24,200 price point (approximately $152). While many luxury racing watches command significantly higher prices, Casio maintains its reputation for providing durable, feature-rich timepieces at accessible price points.
The limited edition nature of this collaboration makes it particularly appealing to collectors and automotive enthusiasts. Unlike the standard GA-2100, which is widely available globally, the Gazoo Racing version will be sold exclusively at the upcoming FIA WRC Forum8 Rally Japan, taking place between May 28th and May 31st. This distribution strategy creates exclusivity and increases the collectibility of the timepiece.
This collaboration follows a broader trend in the watch industry where automotive partnerships result in specialized timepieces that appeal to enthusiasts of both products. Casio has a history of such collaborations, having previously worked with racing teams and automotive brands to create limited edition models. The Gazoo Racing partnership continues this tradition while introducing a more restrained, minimalist design approach compared to some of Casio's more overtly sport collaborations.
For potential buyers, the question is whether this limited edition offers enough distinction from the standard GA-2100 to justify seeking it out. While the all-black design and racing branding provide aesthetic differentiation, the core functionality remains identical. The exclusivity factor may be the primary appeal for collectors, while casual users might find the standard model more practical given its wider availability.
Currently, there is no indication that this collaboration model will be sold in other countries beyond Japan, which limits accessibility for international G-Shock enthusiasts. Those interested in acquiring this piece will need to either attend the rally event in Japan or explore secondary market channels once the initial distribution concludes.
The Casio G-Shock x GR GA-2100 represents an interesting intersection of automotive culture and practical timekeeping. By maintaining the core functionality that has made the GA-2100 popular while adding exclusive design elements, Casio has created a product that should appeal to both racing enthusiasts and G-Shock collectors alike.
