Garmin releases system software 25.14 for Descent Mk3 and Mk3i dive computers, addressing multiple bugs including map display issues, CCR dive errors, and dive count inconsistencies.

Garmin has released system software 25.14 for its Descent Mk3 and Descent Mk3i watch-style dive computers, addressing several bugs that have been affecting users since the last update. The new firmware arrives several months after system software 23.49, which focused on connected device improvements, and brings targeted fixes for specific dive-related issues.

The most notable fix in version 25.14 addresses a problem with the shading of bathymetry contour lines on the DiveView map. This visual glitch had been reported by users who found the underwater topography display to be inaccurate or difficult to interpret during dive planning. Garmin has resolved this rendering issue, ensuring that divers can rely on accurate depth contour visualization when preparing for their underwater excursions.

Another significant bug fix targets a dive computer error that occurred when users switched to an oxygen diluent during closed-circuit rebreather (CCR) dives. This technical issue could potentially disrupt dive planning and execution for technical divers who rely on precise gas management. The fix ensures that gas switching operations during CCR dives are handled correctly by the dive computer's algorithms.

Garmin has also tackled inconsistencies in the recovery time display shown in the Descent Mk3/Mk3i's Dive Readiness widget. Recovery time is a critical metric for divers, indicating how long they should wait before undertaking another dive to avoid decompression sickness. The elimination of these inconsistencies provides divers with more reliable information for planning their dive schedules.

Additional fixes in system software 25.14 include resolving an issue where some S1 buoy strings could be cut-off in certain languages, improving the multilingual user experience. Garmin has also addressed a problem where the total dive count increased unexpectedly when recording dives in pool mode, ensuring that dive statistics remain accurate and reliable.

The update is being rolled out in phases to users of the Garmin Descent Mk3 and Descent Mk3i watch-style dive computers. When available, the update should be pushed to the wearables automatically when connected to Garmin Connect or Garmin Express. Users can check for the update manually through these applications if they prefer to install it immediately.

These bug fixes demonstrate Garmin's ongoing commitment to improving the reliability and functionality of its dive computer lineup. The Descent Mk3 and Mk3i are premium dive computers with current prices starting at $1,399.99 on Amazon, making regular software updates essential for maintaining their value proposition to serious divers.
