Microsoft has expanded its Surface Laptop for Business lineup with three new models featuring Intel's latest Panther Lake processors, targeting enterprise users with enhanced performance, security features, and optional privacy screens.
Microsoft has announced the availability of three new Surface Laptop for Business models powered by Intel's latest Panther Lake processors. The lineup includes a 13-inch first-generation model and 13.8-inch and 15-inch eighth-generation models, all designed with business users in mind. These laptops bring updated hardware specifications, enhanced security features, and new capabilities like advanced haptics feedback.

The smallest model, the Surface Laptop for Business 13 (1st-gen), starts at $1299 for a configuration with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, though this version is scheduled for later this year. The currently available entry-level option costs $1499 with 16GB of RAM. All models in this business lineup feature Intel Core Ultra 5 325 processors, LPDDR5x memory, and PCIe Gen 4 NVMe SSD storage.
The 13-inch model weighs 2.7 pounds and sports a 1920 x 1280 pixel touchscreen display with a 3:2 aspect ratio and 60 Hz refresh rate. It includes two USB 3.2 Type-C ports supporting video output, charging, and data transfer, plus a USB 3.2 Type-A port, 3.5mm audio jack, and support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. Additional features include a 50 Wh battery, backlit keyboard with Precision touchpad, 1080p webcam, stereo speakers, and dual microphones.

For users requiring more processing power, Microsoft offers the 13.8-inch and 15-inch models with options for Intel Core Ultra 5 335 or Core Ultra X7 368H processors. The latter features Intel Arc B390 12-core integrated graphics that delivers performance typically associated with entry-level discrete GPUs. The 13.8-inch model can also be configured with a Core Ultra 7 366H processor, offering a 16-core CPU without Intel Arc graphics.
These larger models support up to 64GB of RAM and feature more pixel-dense displays than the 13-inch version. The 13.8-inch model has a 2304 x 1536 pixel touchscreen with 201 pixels per inch and a 120 Hz refresh rate, while the 15-inch model boasts a 3270 x 2180 pixel display with 262 pixels per inch. Port configurations include:
- 2 x Thunderbolt 4
- 1 x USB 3.2 Type-A
- 1 x 3.5mm audio
- 1 x Surface Connect
- 1 x microSDXC Express card reader
- 1 x Smart Card reader (on select models in certain markets)

Notably, Microsoft is introducing an optional integrated privacy screen for the 13.8-inch model, which limits viewing angles to help prevent shoulder surfing. Despite their larger size and increased capabilities, these models remain relatively lightweight at 2.97 pounds for the 13.8-inch version and 3.67 pounds for the 15-inch model.
Pricing for the larger models starts at $1950 for the 13.8-inch version and $2150 for the 15-inch model. All three models feature "advanced haptics" technology, providing tactile feedback for window snapping, resizing, and drag-and-drop operations. Microsoft indicates this functionality is integrated with certain Windows features and will be supported by select third-party applications.
For IT departments managing Windows deployments, these new Surface Laptop for Business models offer updated hardware that should provide better longevity and performance for business applications. The inclusion of WiFi 7 support positions these devices for future network infrastructure upgrades, while the enhanced security features like the optional privacy screen and Smart Card reader support address enterprise requirements for data protection.
Developers working on Windows applications will benefit from the increased RAM capacity in the larger models, particularly those running virtual machines, containerized applications, or development environments that require substantial memory resources. The higher-resolution displays also provide more screen real estate for coding and testing applications across different viewports.
Microsoft's business-focused approach with these laptops suggests they're targeting organizations with standardized device deployments. The consistent design language and feature sets across the three screen sizes allow for flexible procurement while maintaining a unified management strategy.
