OnePlus has reportedly canceled its OnePlus Open 2 foldable phone for 2026, likely due to Oppo's plans for a global release of the Find N6, marking the second consecutive year without a successor to the acclaimed 2023 model.

Industry leaker Yogesh Brar has reported that OnePlus has canceled development of the OnePlus Open 2 foldable smartphone, effectively shelving the anticipated successor to its well-reviewed 2023 flagship foldable for the second consecutive year. This decision follows OnePlus' earlier confirmation that no Open successor would arrive in 2025, and now extends the absence through 2026.

The cancellation aligns with shifting strategies within parent company BBK Electronics' portfolio. Historically, OnePlus foldables have been global rebadges of Oppo's Find N series devices. The original OnePlus Open was essentially a rebranded Oppo Find N3 for international markets. With Oppo now planning a global release for its upcoming Find N6—mirroring last year's Find N5 global expansion—a separate OnePlus-branded variant becomes redundant. This consolidation simplifies BBK's product lineup while expanding Oppo's direct global footprint.

Technical implications for consumers are significant. The original OnePlus Open (official specs) set benchmarks with its virtually crease-free 7.82-inch foldable LTPO3 OLED main display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, and versatile triple-camera system. Potential Open 2 buyers now face two paths: await Oppo's Find N6 global release or consider discounted original Open units. Based on Oppo's current trajectory, the Find N6 will likely feature Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor, improved hinge mechanics, and camera enhancements over its predecessor.

This cancellation isn't isolated. Brar also indicates a 90% probability that the India-specific OnePlus 15s (traditionally a rebadged OnePlus T-series device) has been canceled. Last year's OnePlus 13s served as an Indian variant of the China-exclusive OnePlus 13T, but leaked timelines suggest the OnePlus 15T won't receive equivalent treatment.

For foldable enthusiasts, this consolidation signals Oppo's growing confidence in global markets. Consumers seeking premium foldables should monitor Oppo's global launch plans rather than expect a OnePlus alternative. Meanwhile, the original OnePlus Open remains a competent option, currently available at reduced prices with its 16GB RAM/512GB storage configuration still outperforming many 2025 mid-range foldables in multitasking and display quality.
