Verizon is compensating customers affected by Wednesday's nationwide service disruption with $20 account credits, requiring users to claim the credit through the My Verizon app.

Verizon has announced a $20 account credit for customers impacted by Wednesday's widespread network outage, which disrupted voice, text, and data services nationwide. The carrier confirmed the compensation measure Thursday morning, noting eligible users must actively claim the credit through the My Verizon app.
The outage began midday Wednesday and lasted until approximately 10 p.m. Eastern Time, preventing customers across the U.S. from making calls, sending texts, or using mobile data. In its statement, Verizon acknowledged the disruption's severity: "We are sorry for what you experienced and will continue to work hard day and night to provide the outstanding network and service that you expect from Verizon."
Affected customers will receive a text notification when the credit becomes available. To claim it:
- Log into the My Verizon app
- Follow prompts to accept the $20 credit
Credit redemption requires action in the My Verizon app
Verizon clarified the credit isn't full compensation but symbolic acknowledgment: "This credit isn't meant to make up for what happened, but it's a way of acknowledging your time." The company suggested restarting devices if connectivity issues persist post-outage.
This compensation exceeds AT&T's $5 credit following its 2024 outage, reflecting Verizon's larger service disruption duration. The Federal Communications Commission has opened an investigation into the incident's cause, which remains undisclosed by Verizon.
Customers have 60 days to claim credits, which will appear within two billing cycles. Those encountering redemption issues should contact Verizon support directly.
