Xiaomi's latest T-series smartphone brings flagship-level performance to the upper mid-range segment with the Dimensity 9500 chip, impressive battery life, and versatile camera system.

The Xiaomi 17T Pro has arrived just eight months after its predecessor, continuing the company's rapid refresh cycle for its popular T-series lineup. While not a revolutionary upgrade, this new device maintains relevance in the competitive mid-range market of 2026 with updated internals and enhanced battery capabilities.

At the heart of the 17T Pro lies MediaTek's Dimensity 9500 chipset, built on a cutting-edge 3nm manufacturing process. This represents a significant step up from last year's model and positions the device above the vanilla Xiaomi 17T, which uses the Dimensity 8500. The performance boost makes the 17T Pro a compelling option for users who want flagship-level processing power without the flagship price tag.

One of the most notable upgrades is the substantial increase in battery capacity, jumping to an impressive 7,000mAh from the previous generation's capacity. Combined with a slight bump in wired charging power from 90W to 100W, the device promises excellent endurance and quick replenishment of that massive battery. The 50W wireless charging support remains, and Xiaomi has added a new 22.5W reverse wired charging capability, allowing the phone to act as a power bank for other devices.

The display carries over from the previous generation but remains excellent: a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with 68 billion colors, 144Hz refresh rate, and 3840Hz PWM dimming. It supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, with a resolution of 1280x2772px and 447 pixels per inch. This display ensures vibrant colors, smooth scrolling, and excellent viewing experiences for media consumption and gaming.

Camera capabilities continue to be a strength of the T-series, with the 17T Pro featuring a versatile triple rear camera setup. The main camera boasts a 50MP sensor with f/1.6 aperture, OIS, and large 1/1.31" sensor size. A telephoto lens offers 50MP resolution with 5x optical zoom (115mm equivalent), and an ultra-wide 12MP camera completes the setup. Video capabilities include 8K recording at 30fps and 4K at up to 120fps, with gyro-EIS stabilization and 10-bit color recording.

From a design perspective, the 17T Pro maintains the sturdy build quality of its predecessor with Gorilla Glass 7i on both front and back, an aluminum frame, and IP68 dust and water resistance. The device measures 162.2x77.5x8.25mm and weighs 219g, making it reasonably compact for its screen size and battery capacity.

Storage options include 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB variants, all with 12GB of RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. The device runs Android 16 with HyperOS 3, Xiaomi's custom interface that offers additional features and optimizations beyond stock Android.

Connectivity options are comprehensive, with 5G support, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, NFC, and an infrared port. An under-display optical fingerprint sensor handles biometric authentication, while stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos provide quality audio.

What's particularly interesting about the 17T Pro is its relationship with other Xiaomi devices. The phone shares many similarities with the Poco X8 Pro Max and Poco F8 Ultra, suggesting Xiaomi is leveraging common hardware platforms across its sub-brands to maximize efficiency and market coverage. This ecosystem approach allows Xiaomi to offer similar experiences at different price points while maintaining component cost advantages.

The pricing starts at £799 for the 256GB variant, with the 512GB model at £849 and the 1TB version at €999.90. In some regions like Europe, the compatible 100W charger is not included in the retail box, though a soft silicone protective case is provided.

For consumers, the Xiaomi 17T Pro represents a solid upper mid-range option that bridges the gap between budget devices and true flagships. The combination of powerful performance, excellent display, versatile camera system, and massive battery makes it particularly appealing to users who prioritize battery life and photography without wanting to spend flagship prices.

The rapid refresh cycle of the T-series does raise questions about the longevity of previous models, but for those who value having the latest technology, the 17T Pro delivers meaningful upgrades in key areas while maintaining the strengths that made its predecessor popular.
