The YuanLey YS100-0602T offers six 10GBASE-T ports and two SFP+ ports for under $200, making it an attractive option for homelab enthusiasts looking to upgrade their network infrastructure without breaking the bank.

The YuanLey YS100-0602T represents an interesting entry in the increasingly crowded market of affordable 10GbE switches. At first glance, this 8-port unmanaged switch looks remarkably similar to the SICSOLINK SFP-J06Q-HG2-US we've previously reviewed, and our investigation confirms they share the same underlying design philosophy and many internal components.

Hardware Overview and Design

The YuanLey YS100-0602T features a 1U chassis with a more subdued color scheme compared to its SICSOLINK counterpart. The front panel houses six 10GBASE-T ports alongside two 10G SFP+ ports, creating a versatile configuration that balances copper and fiber connectivity options.

The port configuration is particularly noteworthy. While some users might prefer having all eight ports as 10GBASE-T, the split between copper and fiber offers distinct advantages. The six 10GBASE-T ports provide flexibility for connecting devices with standard RJ45 connections, while the two SFP+ ports serve dual purposes as either uplink connections to other switches or for connecting specialized equipment.

SFP+ Port Configuration

One interesting feature is the toggle switch located next to the SFP+ ports, which allows users to select between 10G multi-Gig SFP+ modules or 10G and 1G versions. This flexibility is valuable, but comes with an important caveat: if you have modules of different speeds (for example, a 2.5G module and a 1G module), you'll only be able to use one type at a time. This limitation requires some planning when selecting SFP+ modules for your network.

Physical Build Quality

The switch includes a side-mounted fan for active cooling, which should help maintain optimal operating temperatures during extended use. The rear panel features an AC power input with an internal power supply, eliminating the need for an external power brick.

YuanLey includes rack ears in the package, making installation in standard 19-inch racks straightforward. However, the switch ships with metal feet instead of rubber feet, which may be less ideal for desk-side installations where vibration dampening would be beneficial.

Internal Components and Design

Opening up the YS100-0602T reveals a design that's remarkably similar to the SICSOLINK model. The internal layout features a separate power supply board mounted towards the rear, using the same HI-POWER60W-V1 unit found in the SICSOLINK. This power supply is protected by a plastic cover, which is a nice touch for preventing accidental contact with live components.

On the main switch PCB, we find six 10GBASE-T ports with the PHYs (physical layer chips) located under heatsinks. The two SFP+ cages are positioned for easy access, and the Realtek RTL9303 switch chip is also covered by a heatsink.

An interesting discovery during our teardown was that this unit uses PCB-W062W-V2.0 and DIP-W0620WS-V2.0 boards with a 25/07 manufacturing date, while the SICSOLINK we purchased the same day had V1.0 markings with a 25/03 date. Despite these version differences, the overall layout and component selection remain very similar.

Performance Considerations

While we're still conducting comprehensive performance testing, the use of the Realtek RTL9303 switch chip suggests this device should deliver solid performance for typical homelab and small office use cases. The RTL9303 is a well-regarded chip in the budget networking space, offering good switching performance without the complexity of managed features.

Value Proposition

The most compelling aspect of the YuanLey YS100-0602T is its price point. At under $200 for an 8-port 10GbE switch, the cost per port comes out to approximately $25, which is quite competitive in today's market. This pricing makes 10GbE networking accessible to a much broader audience, particularly for homelab enthusiasts and small businesses looking to upgrade their infrastructure.

Conclusion

The YuanLey YS100-0602T offers a compelling combination of features, build quality, and pricing. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive managed switches, it delivers exactly what many users need: reliable 10GbE connectivity at an accessible price point. The mix of 10GBASE-T and SFP+ ports provides flexibility for various network configurations, and the internal design suggests good thermal management and reliability.

For homelab enthusiasts, small office environments, or anyone looking to dip their toes into 10GbE networking without a significant investment, the YuanLey YS100-0602T represents a solid choice that delivers good value for the money.
