Overview

Originating from Toyota's manufacturing system, Kanban uses a board with columns (e.g., To Do, In Progress, Done) to visualize the flow of work. Unlike Scrum, it does not have fixed-length iterations.

Core Practices

  • Visualize the Workflow: Using a Kanban board.
  • Limit Work-in-Progress (WIP): Preventing bottlenecks by restricting the number of tasks in each stage.
  • Manage Flow: Monitoring and optimizing the movement of tasks.
  • Make Process Policies Explicit: Ensuring everyone understands how work is done.

Benefits

  • Improved visibility.
  • Increased efficiency.
  • Flexibility to change priorities at any time.
