Overview
Solid (Social Linked Data) is a specification that lets users store their data securely in decentralized data stores called Pods (Personal Online Data Stores). Users can then grant applications permission to read or write to specific parts of their Pod.
Key Innovation
Solid decouples data from the application. Instead of your photos being 'on Facebook' and your contacts being 'on Google,' they are in your Pod, and you choose which apps can use them.
Benefits
- Data Sovereignty: You own your data and can move it between apps easily.
- Privacy: Granular control over who sees what.
- Developer Efficiency: Apps don't need to manage their own massive databases of user data.
