Citizen expands its Tsuyosa lineup with new Shore models featuring unidirectional timing bezels, sapphire crystals, and hacking movements in a utilitarian 'desk diver' package.

Citizen Watch Hong Kong has introduced the Tsuyosa Shore series (NJ023x), a significant evolution of its popular integrated-bracelet collection. These 40mm stainless steel watches transition from purely "sports-elegant" toward a more functional "desk diver" aesthetic while retaining accessible pricing.
What's New: Addressing Key Feedback

The most notable upgrade is the integration of a unidirectional rotating timing bezel, directly addressing consumer requests for enhanced functionality missing in the original NJ015 series. This practical addition comes with trade-offs: case thickness increases to 12.5mm (from 11.7mm) for bezel mechanics, though the watch maintains a wearable 40mm diameter.
Four colorways debut:
- NJ0230-59L: Navy dial/bezel
- NJ0231-56L: Blue-green gradient
- NJ0232-53X: Gold-plated case with green dial
- NJ0234-58X: Two-tone (gold/steel) with burgundy dial
Movement and Technical Upgrades

Power comes from Citizen's in-house Caliber 8210, a proven 21-jewel automatic movement. Crucially, all Shore models include a hacking seconds function (halting the seconds hand when setting time), resolving inconsistencies in earlier Tsuyosa production. The movement operates at 21,600 vph (3 Hz) with a 42-hour power reserve and carries a -20/+40 seconds per day accuracy rating, though real-world performance often exceeds this.
Technical improvements include:
- Sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating (upgrade from mineral glass)
- Exhibition caseback with mineral crystal showing rhodium-plated movement
- 100m water resistance (sufficient for swimming, but lacks screw-down crown)
Comparison: Tsuyosa vs. Predecessors & Competitors

Versus the NJ015 series, the Shore offers:
- Functional timing bezel (+)
- Sapphire crystal (+)
- Consistent hacking seconds (+)
- Slightly thicker profile (-)
At this price point (~$300-$400 estimated), the sapphire crystal and in-house movement give Citizen an edge over entry-level Swiss options like Tissot PRX or Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical, which often use mineral glass and less accurate movements. The integrated bracelet features solid links and a butterfly clasp, though the lack of micro-adjustments may frustrate wearers needing fine-tuning.
Who It's For

The Shore series targets:
- First-time automatic watch buyers wanting premium features (sapphire, hacking movement) at accessible pricing
- Tsuyosa fans seeking enhanced functionality without sacrificing the original design language
- Value-focused enthusiasts prioritizing specs over brand prestige
The utilitarian design bridges office and casual environments effectively. While not a true dive watch due to the lack of ISO certification, the 100m WR and timing bezel add practical versatility.
Pricing and availability remain unconfirmed, but expect positioning near the existing NJ015 series. For reference, the previous Citizen NJ0150-56Z remains available on Amazon.
