A casting call for a supporting book character suggests HBO's Harry Potter series may follow the novels more closely than the films did.

HBO is casting Colin Creevey for Season 2 of its Harry Potter series, according to Deadline. The Muggle-born Gryffindor student, known for his camera and admiration of Harry Potter, appears across multiple books but barely registered in the films.
Colin Creevey shows up in Chamber of Secrets as one of the students petrified by the Basilisk. The movies never brought him back. The novels kept writing him in, and he eventually joins Dumbledore's Army and fights at the Battle of Hogwarts.
Reddit users reacted to the news with dry humor. "Well I'd be a bit concerned if they weren't casting him for S2," reads the top comment in the thread.
The casting choice carries weight beyond the character himself. Fans pointed to Colin as a minor but telling signal: HBO may be building out the full supporting cast rather than cutting the way the films did. Colin represents the kind of background presence the movies treated as disposable.
Season 1 premieres Dec. 25, 2026. Season 2 is expected in 2027 at the earliest, though 2028 is more likely.
