iPhone Fold's crease size detailed in new leak

Apple's first foldable iPhone may have a crease under 0.15mm, according to a new leak from China.

A new leak from China has revealed what could be the most critical detail about Apple's upcoming iPhone Fold: the crease size. According to the leak, the folding display will feature a crease measuring under 0.15mm with a fold angle of less than 2.5 degrees.

This specification addresses one of the primary concerns that has kept Apple out of the foldable smartphone market for years. While the display won't be completely crease-less, the measurements suggest it will be virtually invisible to the naked eye during normal use.

The leak comes as Apple prepares to enter the foldable space, a market that competitors like Samsung, Huawei, and Google have been developing for several years. The iPhone Fold is rumored to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September, with the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e expected in spring 2027.

Beyond the crease specifications, the leak provides additional details about the device's design. The iPhone Fold is expected to feature an iPhone Air-like camera island housing two sensors, a departure from the multi-camera setups found on current flagship models. For biometric authentication, Apple appears to be taking a different approach than its competitors by embedding Touch ID into the power button on the right side of the frame, rather than relying solely on Face ID or an under-display fingerprint sensor.

The folding display technology is reportedly being supplied by Samsung, Apple's long-time display partner. This collaboration makes sense given Samsung's leadership in foldable display technology and its experience supplying panels to other manufacturers.

Previous leaks have suggested the iPhone Fold will pack Apple's largest smartphone battery yet, addressing another common concern with foldable devices - battery life. The combination of minimal crease visibility and extended battery capacity could help Apple overcome two of the biggest hurdles facing foldable smartphones.

As with all leaks, these specifications should be taken with caution until Apple makes an official announcement. However, the consistency of reports about Apple's foldable plans, combined with the technical feasibility of the claimed specifications, suggests this information may be accurate.

The iPhone Fold represents a significant shift in Apple's strategy, as the company has historically been cautious about adopting new form factors until the technology matures. If these specifications prove accurate, Apple's entry into the foldable market could set new standards for crease visibility and user experience in this emerging category.
