Motorola's latest true wireless earbuds combine Bose audio technology with active noise cancellation and extended battery life, offering a compelling mid-range option for Android users.

Motorola has expanded its audio lineup with the launch of the Moto Buds 2 Plus, a new pair of true wireless earbuds that bring premium sound quality and advanced features to the company's ecosystem. Priced at $149.99 and available starting today directly from Motorola.com, these earbuds represent a significant upgrade over their predecessors while actually coming in $50 cheaper than the original Moto Buds+ launched in 2024.

At the heart of the Moto Buds 2 Plus is a hybrid audio configuration that combines 11mm dynamic drivers with Knowles balanced armatures. This dual-driver setup is designed to deliver what Motorola describes as "full-bodied bass" while maintaining "clarity and precision" across the frequency range. The inclusion of Knowles balanced armatures is particularly noteworthy, as Knowles is a respected manufacturer of high-end audio components commonly found in premium earbuds.

The earbuds support high-resolution audio through the LHDC codec, which allows for higher bit-rate audio streaming than standard Bluetooth codecs. This technology enables the transmission of audio at up to 900 kbps, significantly higher than the approximately 328 kbps maximum of aptX HD. For spatial audio enthusiasts, the Moto Buds 2 Plus also support immersive sound formats, creating a more three-dimensional listening experience.

One of the most interesting aspects of the Moto Buds 2 Plus is their "Sound by Bose" branding. This collaboration might seem counterintuitive at first glance, given that Bose competes directly in the true wireless earbuds market with its own lineup. However, this partnership likely represents a licensing arrangement where Motorola has incorporated Bose's audio tuning technology and possibly some of its noise cancellation algorithms into the earbuds. Similar collaborations have appeared with other brands, including Skullcandy's Method 360 and NOISE Master Buds, both of which also feature "Sound by Bose" technology.

The active noise cancellation capabilities have been upgraded with what Motorola calls "Dynamic ANC." This system utilizes six microphones to continuously monitor ambient noise and adjust the cancellation levels in real-time. The earbuds also feature CrystalTalk AI, a voice enhancement technology that "uses advanced AI noise reduction to clarify one's voice in loud environments." This feature should prove particularly useful for phone calls in noisy settings or when participating in virtual meetings.

Battery life represents another significant improvement, with the Moto Buds 2 Plus offering up to 9 hours of continuous playback on a single charge. When factoring in the charging case, users can enjoy up to 40 hours of total battery life. This represents a substantial improvement over many competing earbuds in the same price range and addresses one of the common pain points for wireless earbud users.

Connectivity options include dual connection capability, allowing the earbuds to maintain connections with two devices simultaneously. This feature enables seamless switching between, for example, a laptop and a smartphone without the need to manually disconnect and reconnect. The Audio Share function is an interesting addition that allows two pairs of Moto Buds 2 Plus to connect to the same device, letting two people listen to the same content simultaneously—a useful feature for couples or friends who want to share media without splitting a single pair of earbuds.

The earbuds also include practical quality-of-life features such as automatic wear detection, which pauses audio playback when either earbud is removed. This simple but effective feature prevents battery drain when users take out the earbuds and forget to manually pause their content.

From an ecosystem perspective, the Moto Buds 2 Plus represent Motorola's continued effort to build out its audio offerings alongside its smartphone lineup. The company recently announced several new devices including the 2026 Razr foldables and multiple new Moto G-series phones, creating a more comprehensive product ecosystem. For Motorola users, these earbuds offer a natural companion to their smartphones with likely optimized integration and possibly exclusive features through the Moto companion app.

The Moto Buds 2 Plus will be available starting today directly from Motorola.com for $149.99, positioning them in the competitive mid-range segment of the true wireless earbuds market. With their combination of Bose-tuned audio, advanced noise cancellation, extended battery life, and practical features, they present a compelling option for Android users looking for a premium audio experience without entering the ultra-premium price bracket.
