Oppo's K15 Pro series debuts in China with gaming-focused designs, massive silicon-carbon batteries, and built-in cooling fans.

Oppo has officially launched its K15 Pro series in China, bringing two gaming-oriented smartphones that combine powerful hardware with innovative cooling solutions and massive batteries. The K15 Pro+ and K15 Pro represent Oppo's latest push into the competitive gaming phone segment, featuring MediaTek's latest chipsets, silicon-carbon batteries, and physical cooling fans.

Display and Design

The K15 Pro+ sports a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1,272 x 2,772 pixels and a 165Hz refresh rate. The panel achieves up to 1,800 nits peak brightness and includes an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner. The K15 Pro comes with a slightly smaller 6.59-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, paired with an optical fingerprint scanner.

Both models embrace a gaming phone aesthetic with LED lighting and built-in cooling fans, marking a significant design departure from Oppo's traditional smartphone lineup.

Performance and Cooling

At the heart of the K15 Pro+ lies MediaTek's Dimensity 9500s chipset, paired with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB UFS 4.1 storage. The K15 Pro uses the Dimensity 8500, also with 12GB LPDDR5X RAM but with UFS 3.1 storage.

What sets these phones apart is their cooling system. Both models feature large vapor chambers and physical cooling fans located near the motherboard, with air intake positioned below the main camera. Oppo claims this cooling fan can reduce the phone's temperature by up to 5°C, addressing one of the biggest challenges in mobile gaming performance.

Battery and Charging

Both phones utilize silicon-carbon (Si-C) battery technology, which offers higher energy density compared to traditional lithium-ion batteries. The K15 Pro+ houses an impressive 8,000mAh battery with 100W wired charging support, while the K15 Pro comes with a 7,500mAh battery and 80W wired charging.

Both devices support reverse wired charging and bypass charging, allowing users to charge accessories or power other devices while gaming.

Camera System

The camera setup is identical on both models, featuring a 24mm equivalent 50MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, paired with a 15mm ultrawide lens offering 8MP resolution and f/2.2 aperture. Both phones include a 16MP front-facing camera.

Durability and Software

Despite the physical cooling fan, both phones maintain full IP68/IP69 ingress protection ratings, making them resistant to dust and water. The devices ship with ColorOS 16 based on Android 16.

Pricing and Availability

The K15 Pro series is available for pre-order in China through Oppo's official webstore, with shipments beginning on April 3. Pricing starts at CNY 2,999 (approximately $410) for the 12GB/256GB K15 Pro and goes up to CNY 4,199 (approximately $575) for the 12GB/512GB K15 Pro+.

Color options include Photodust (pink), Origin Gray (grey), and Cyber Wings (white) for both models, with the K15 Pro also offering an exclusive Golden Legend (black) variant.

Market Context

The launch comes at an interesting time for the gaming phone market. As one reader noted, "Looking at gaming phones, iQOO has the iQOO 15 Ultra in its roster now. Yes, it's much more expensive than this, but a new gaming phone is interesting and much needed when one of the most well-renowned gaming phone manufacturers has pulled out."

This comment likely refers to ASUS's decision to exit the gaming phone market, creating an opportunity for manufacturers like Oppo to capture market share with gaming-focused devices.

The K15 Pro series represents Oppo's strategic move to compete in the gaming phone segment with a combination of cutting-edge technology, innovative cooling solutions, and competitive pricing. Whether this approach will resonate with gamers remains to be seen, but the specifications suggest Oppo has taken the gaming phone market seriously with this launch.
