Oppo has started the phased rollout of ColorOS 16 May 2026 across its flagship Find and Reno smartphones. The update began on May 5 and is slated to reach all eligible devices by the end of the month. A detailed list of supported models is shown in the official rollout graphic.

What’s new?

Live Space gets a makeover

The lock‑screen experience, now called Live Space, has been rebuilt to feel more fluid and intuitive. Capsule‑style notifications slide in with subtle, real‑time animations, and the background reacts to swipes, giving a sense of depth without draining battery. Users can also swipe up or down on stacked AI Suggest widgets while editing a note or a message, making quick actions feel natural.

AI Mind Pilot and other AI helpers

ColorOS 16 introduces a set of AI‑powered utilities that aim to keep the phone organized and creative:

  • AI Mind Pilot – an on‑device assistant that learns your routine, surfaces relevant files, suggests replies and can even draft short notes based on context.
  • AI Grouping – automatically clusters photos, messages and documents by people, places or topics.
  • AI Menu Translation – translates app menus on the fly, useful for multilingual users.
  • AI Popout – lifts selected text or images into a floating window for quick reference while you work in another app.
  • AI Scan – scans documents, QR codes and even handwritten notes, then tags them for easy retrieval.

O+ Connect bridges Android and iOS

Oppo’s O+ Connect now supports cross‑platform file sharing with Apple devices. Users can drag a photo from an iPhone to an Oppo phone over Wi‑Fi Direct, and the system will handle format conversion automatically. The feature also syncs clipboard content, allowing copy‑paste between the two ecosystems without a third‑party app.

Live Translation gets smarter

Live Translation now produces AI‑generated titles and summaries for multilingual conversations, making it easier to skim long chats. Context awareness has been improved, so the engine can keep technical terms consistent across turns, reducing mistranslations in business or gaming chats.

App Cloner upgraded

The built‑in App Cloner can now run up to three clones of supported apps. This is handy for separating work, personal and entertainment profiles within the same social or messaging app, and the clones appear as independent entries in the app drawer.

Visual and usability tweaks

  • LUMO watermark – a subtle branding overlay for images shared from the gallery, useful for creators who want a consistent signature.
  • Rich visual summaries – AI can now generate summaries that include images, tables, flowcharts or diagrams, available in markets such as India, Indonesia, Vietnam and others.
  • Eye Comfort page redesign – cleaner layout and simpler sliders for blue‑light reduction.
  • Color‑based app finding – in Drawer mode, apps can be filtered by dominant color, a small but pleasant quality‑of‑life improvement.

How the update fits into Oppo’s ecosystem strategy

Oppo has been positioning itself as a bridge between Android’s openness and the growing demand for AI‑enhanced daily workflows. By bundling AI tools directly into the OS, the company reduces reliance on third‑party apps that often fragment the user experience. The O+ Connect addition signals a recognition that many consumers own mixed‑brand households; offering seamless Android‑iOS interaction helps lock users into the Oppo ecosystem without forcing them to abandon Apple devices.

The focus on Live Space and refined animations also reflects a broader industry trend: manufacturers are using subtle UI polish to differentiate premium devices. While the hardware specs of the Find X9 Ultra and Reno 15 Pro remain the headline draws, the software layer now carries enough unique features to sway a buyer who values productivity and AI assistance.

Getting the update

Eligible phones will receive the OTA prompt automatically. Users can also check manually by opening Settings → Software Update. The rollout is staged, so some regions may see the update a few days later than others. Oppo advises backing up important data before installation, as the update includes a fresh system partition layout to accommodate the new AI modules.

What to watch next

  • AI Mind Pilot will likely receive iterative improvements, possibly expanding into deeper integration with third‑party apps via an open‑API.
  • O+ Connect could evolve to support Android‑to‑Windows file sharing, completing a tri‑platform bridge.
  • Future ColorOS releases are expected to push more on‑device AI, reducing latency and data‑usage compared with cloud‑only solutions.
