Xiaomi fills the gap in its Redmi monitor lineup with the G25, offering 200 Hz refresh rates and IPS performance at just $88.

Xiaomi has expanded its Redmi gaming monitor lineup with the new G25, a 24.5-inch display that slots between the existing G24 and G27 models. The company introduced the G24 and G27 variants less than a year ago, and the G25 now completes the series with competitive specifications at an aggressive price point.

The Redmi G25 shares several key features with its larger sibling, the G27. Most notably, both monitors offer a 200 Hz refresh rate, making them suitable for competitive gaming where smooth motion and quick response times matter. The G25 maintains a Full HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels with a standard 16:9 aspect ratio, which pairs well with the high refresh rate for gaming applications.

As an IPS panel, the G25 delivers 1 ms GtG response times and wide 178° viewing angles, ensuring consistent image quality from various positions. The display covers 95% of the DCI-P3 color space, providing good color accuracy for both gaming and content creation tasks. With 400 nits peak brightness and a 1,000:1 contrast ratio, the monitor offers decent visibility in various lighting conditions.

However, the port selection reflects the monitor's budget positioning. Users will find only DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, and a 3.5 mm audio jack on the rear panel. This limited connectivity may require adapters or hubs for setups with multiple devices, though the pricing makes this compromise more palatable.

Speaking of pricing, Xiaomi has set the Redmi G25 at CNY 609, which translates to approximately $88. This aggressive pricing makes the monitor one of the most affordable options with a 200 Hz refresh rate on the market. For comparison, the G27i and G24i models that Xiaomi has sold internationally were priced at $129.99 and higher, respectively.

While Xiaomi hasn't announced international availability for the G25 yet, the company has a history of bringing Redmi gaming monitors to global markets. The G27i and G24i models have been available through retailers like Amazon, suggesting the G25 could follow a similar path.

The Redmi G25 appears positioned to compete with other budget gaming monitors from brands like AOC, ViewSonic, and ASUS's TUF Gaming series. Its combination of 200 Hz refresh rate, IPS panel technology, and sub-$100 pricing could make it particularly attractive to competitive gamers or those building budget gaming setups.

For users considering the G25, the monitor offers several advantages: the high refresh rate for smooth gaming, wide viewing angles for multi-user scenarios, and good color coverage for general use. The main trade-offs include the limited port selection and the Full HD resolution, which may feel restrictive for users accustomed to higher resolutions or those who prefer larger displays for productivity work.

The timing of this release is interesting, as the gaming monitor market has seen increased competition in the budget segment. With many manufacturers focusing on higher-end features like 4K resolution and variable refresh rate technologies, Xiaomi's approach with the G25 targets a different segment entirely – gamers who prioritize refresh rate and responsiveness over resolution and advanced features.

As the gaming monitor market continues to evolve, products like the Redmi G25 demonstrate that there remains significant demand for well-specced, affordable options. Whether this model makes its way to international markets remains to be seen, but if it does, it could shake up the budget gaming monitor segment with its compelling combination of features and price.
