Overview

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) eliminates the need for manual IP configuration. When a device joins a network, it 'asks' for an IP address, and the DHCP server provides one from a pool.

The DORA Process

  1. Discovery: Client broadcasts to find a DHCP server.
  2. Offer: Server offers an IP address to the client.
  3. Request: Client requests the offered IP address.
  4. Acknowledgement: Server confirms the lease of the IP address.
