Overview

Disaster Recovery Planning (DRP) is a subset of business continuity planning that focuses on the technical aspects of recovering IT systems, data, and networks after a disaster (e.g., fire, flood, or massive cyberattack).

Key Metrics

  • Recovery Time Objective (RTO): The maximum acceptable length of time that a computer, system, network, or application can be down after a failure or disaster.
  • Recovery Point Objective (RPO): The maximum acceptable amount of data loss measured in time.

Common Strategies

  • Backups: Regular copies of data stored off-site or in the cloud.
  • Cold Site: A backup facility with little or no hardware installed.
  • Hot Site: A fully functional backup facility with real-time data replication.
