Overview

DDR is an advanced version of SDRAM that doubles the data transfer rate without increasing the clock frequency. It achieves this by transferring data on both the 'up' and 'down' parts of each clock cycle.

Generations

  • DDR1: The original standard.
  • DDR2, DDR3, DDR4, DDR5: Successive generations offering higher speeds, lower power consumption, and increased capacity.

Importance

DDR technology is the foundation of modern high-performance system memory.
