Overview
EIPs are the primary way the Ethereum community proposes, debates, and implements changes to the protocol. Anyone can write an EIP, but it must go through a rigorous review process by core developers and the community.
Types of EIPs
- Standard Track: Changes to the network protocol (e.g., EIP-1559).
- ERC (Ethereum Request for Comments): Standards for tokens and applications (e.g., ERC-20).
- Meta: Changes to the EIP process itself.
Significance
EIPs ensure that Ethereum remains an open and evolving platform while maintaining consensus among its diverse participants.
