Overview

GSLB is like a 'super load balancer' for the entire world. It ensures that users are directed to the data center that will provide the best performance (usually the one closest to them) and provides disaster recovery if an entire region goes offline.

How it Works

GSLB typically uses DNS to direct traffic. When a user requests a website, the GSLB-enabled DNS server considers factors like data center health, current load, and the user's location before returning the IP address of the best data center.

Benefits

  • Improved Performance: Reduces latency by serving content from a nearby location.
  • High Availability: Automatically reroutes traffic if a data center fails.
  • Compliance: Can be used to ensure that users in a specific country are served from data centers within that country.
