Overview

PostCSS is not a preprocessor like Sass or Less, but rather a CSS ecosystem. It takes CSS and parses it into an Abstract Syntax Tree (AST), which can then be manipulated by various plugins before being output as standard CSS.

Popular Plugins

  • Autoprefixer: Automatically adds vendor prefixes to CSS rules.
  • PostCSS Preset Env: Allows you to use future CSS features today.
  • CSSNano: Minifies CSS for production.
  • Tailwind CSS: A utility-first CSS framework that runs as a PostCSS plugin.

Benefits

PostCSS is highly modular and fast, allowing developers to pick and choose exactly the features they need for their project.
