Overview

PoH is not a consensus mechanism itself but a high-frequency Verifiable Delay Function (VDF) that helps the network reach consensus more quickly by providing a reliable clock.

How it Works

It uses a sequence of computation that can be cryptographically verified. This allows nodes to agree on the time and order of events without having to communicate with each other constantly.

Benefits

  • Scalability: Enables much higher transaction speeds (TPS).
  • Efficiency: Reduces the messaging overhead required for consensus.
