Overview
x86-64 (also known as AMD64 or Intel 64) is the 64-bit version of the x86 architecture. It was originally designed by AMD and later adopted by Intel. It is the standard architecture for modern PCs and servers.
Key Advantages
- Memory Addressing: Can address vastly more RAM than the 4GB limit of 32-bit x86.
- Performance: Includes more registers and other architectural improvements that speed up modern software.
- Compatibility: Can run 32-bit x86 software natively without a performance penalty.
