Asus refreshes its 27-inch WOLED gaming monitor with TrueBlack Glossy coating, proximity sensor, and HDMI 2.1 ports while maintaining the core 240Hz 1440p experience.
Asus has launched the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2, a refreshed version of its popular 27-inch WOLED gaming monitor that brings several meaningful upgrades while retaining the core specifications that made the original model successful.
The new monitor, also designated as XG27AQDMGR, is now available on Amazon for $649, representing a $50 price reduction compared to the previous generation before discounts. The original ROG Strix XG27AQDMG remains available at $587.99 during current promotional pricing.
What's New in the Gen 2 Model
The most significant upgrade is the new TrueBlack Glossy coating that Asus claims reduces reflections by up to 38% compared to the previous model while maintaining deeper blacks even in well-lit environments. This enhancement addresses a common concern for OLED users with bright rooms, potentially expanding the monitor's usability across different lighting conditions.
Asus has also integrated a proximity sensor that automatically switches the display to a black screen when the user steps away. This feature aims to prevent burn-in, a concern that has historically affected OLED displays, particularly when static elements remain on screen for extended periods.
The stand has been redesigned to be 30% more compact, reducing the monitor's footprint on desks. Additionally, the Gen 2 model upgrades from HDMI 2.0 to HDMI 2.1 ports, providing better compatibility with modern gaming consoles and graphics cards that support higher bandwidth requirements.
Core Specifications Remain Consistent
Despite the refresh, the ROG Strix OLED XG27AQDMG Gen 2 maintains the same 3rd-generation WOLED panel as its predecessor. This means users still get a 27-inch display with 2560x1440 resolution, 240Hz refresh rate, and 0.03ms response time.
The monitor continues to cover 99% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and delivers up to 1,300 nits peak brightness, complemented by DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification for excellent contrast performance. These specifications ensure the display remains competitive for both gaming and content creation tasks.
Connectivity and Features
The updated model includes a comprehensive port selection: HDMI 2.1 ports (upgraded from 2.0), DisplayPort 1.4, a headphone jack, and a USB hub. This connectivity suite provides flexibility for connecting multiple devices and peripherals without requiring additional dongles or switches.
Market Positioning
While many 2026 OLED monitors are adopting newer technologies like Tandem OLED and true RGB subpixel layouts, Asus has chosen to refresh its existing 3rd-gen WOLED platform with practical usability improvements rather than a complete panel overhaul. This strategy may appeal to users who prioritize the established performance characteristics of the current panel while wanting enhanced features like better reflection handling and burn-in prevention.
The price reduction to $649, combined with the feature upgrades, positions the Gen 2 model as a compelling option in the premium 27-inch WOLED gaming monitor segment, particularly for users upgrading from older displays or those setting up bright room environments.
The monitor is available through Amazon in the US, with the Asus store also listing the product but currently showing it as out of stock.

The refresh demonstrates Asus's commitment to iterative improvement in its gaming monitor lineup, focusing on practical enhancements that address real-world usage scenarios rather than chasing the latest panel technologies for their own sake.
