Two new G-Shock watches with hand-drawn comic book aesthetics are launching March 14th in the US, featuring traffic cone LED animations and classic G-Shock durability.
Two new Casio G-Shock watches designed in collaboration with artist Joshua Vides are set to launch in the US on March 14th, bringing a distinctive comic book-inspired aesthetic to the brand's classic digital models. The artist has been teasing the DW-5600J-7 and DW-6900J-1 models on social media over the past few days, building anticipation for the official reveal.
The G-Shock DW-5600JV-7 features a rectangular digital design with a white resin case and strap accented by black details that appear to be hand-drawn with pen. The G-Shock DW-6900JV-1 takes a round digital form with a black resin case and strap, complemented by white pen stroke accents. Both watches maintain the traditional light background digital displays with dark figures that G-Shock is known for.
A unique feature of these models is the LED backlight animation. When activated, the backlight reveals an image of a traffic cone, adding an unexpected playful element to the watches' functionality. This creative touch aligns with Vides' signature style of transforming everyday objects into comic book-style illustrations.
Beyond their distinctive appearance, these G-Shock models retain the brand's reputation for durability and practical features. Both watches include a 1/100th second stopwatch, hourly time signals, a multifunction alarm, and a countdown timer. They offer water resistance to 200 meters and feature a fully automatic calendar that extends to the year 2099.
The pricing for the US market has not yet been announced, and it remains unclear whether these models will be released in European countries such as Germany. The watches represent Casio's continued strategy of collaborating with artists and designers to create limited-edition versions of its classic G-Shock models, appealing to both watch enthusiasts and fans of contemporary art.
For those interested in the artistic collaboration, Joshua Vides has been sharing images and videos of the watches on his Instagram account, providing a closer look at the hand-drawn details and overall design execution. The partnership continues the trend of streetwear and art world crossovers in the watch industry, following similar collaborations from other major brands.
