MINISFORUM expands its Panther Lake lineup with the MS-03, a compact desktop featuring Intel's Core Ultra 7 256H processor and familiar chassis design.
Chinese mini PC manufacturer MINISFORUM has expanded its Intel Panther Lake lineup with the new MS-03, a compact desktop computer that balances performance with expandability in a familiar form factor.
The MS-03-S356H measures 195 x 195 x 42.5mm (7.7" x 7.7" x 1.7"), making it slightly larger than MINISFORUM's ultra-compact offerings but still small enough to fit comfortably on most desks or entertainment centers. The design appears to use the same chassis as several previous MINISFORUM models including the MS-01, MS-A1, MS-A2, and MS-R1, suggesting the company is leveraging proven industrial design while updating the internal components.
At the heart of the MS-03 is Intel's Core Ultra 7 256H processor, a 16-core chip featuring Intel's hybrid architecture with 4 Performance cores, 8 Efficiency cores, and 4 Low-Power Efficiency cores. The processor can reach speeds up to 4.7 GHz and includes Intel's Xe3 integrated graphics with a 4-core iGPU. While this isn't as powerful as the 12-core iGPU found in Intel's higher-end Core Ultra X7 and X9 chips, it's complemented by an NPU capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS of AI performance.
One of the MS-03's key advantages is its expansion capabilities. Previous MINISFORUM PCs using this chassis have featured PCIe 4.0 x8 slots for half-height discrete graphics cards, allowing users to add dedicated GPU hardware if needed. This makes the MS-03 particularly appealing for users who want the option to upgrade graphics performance without committing to a full-sized desktop PC.
MINISFORUM unveiled the MS-03 in China recently, though the company hasn't yet released detailed specifications, pricing, or availability information. However, given that this appears to be part of MINISFORUM's "work station" line of computers, we can expect it to include at least two USB4 or Thunderbolt ports and multiple high-speed LAN ports for robust connectivity.
The MS-03 joins MINISFORUM's existing Panther Lake offerings, including the recently announced M2 Pro, which supports up to an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H processor and Intel Arc B390 graphics. While the M2 Pro targets users who want maximum performance in a compact form factor, the MS-03 seems positioned for those who value expandability and a more traditional desktop experience.
For users considering the MS-03, the key trade-off is between the integrated graphics of the Core Ultra 7 256H versus the potential for discrete GPU expansion. The integrated graphics should handle everyday tasks and light gaming adequately, while the PCIe slot provides a path for significant graphics performance upgrades if needed.
MINISFORUM's continued investment in the Panther Lake platform demonstrates the growing market for compact, powerful desktop computers that don't sacrifice expandability. As Intel's latest processors bring improved performance and AI capabilities to smaller form factors, we can expect to see more manufacturers following MINISFORUM's lead in creating versatile mini PCs that blur the line between traditional desktops and compact computing solutions.
The MS-03 represents an interesting middle ground in the mini PC market - more capable than ultra-compact systems but more space-efficient than traditional desktops. For users who want a balance of performance, expandability, and compact design, it could prove to be an attractive option once pricing and availability details are announced.
