OpenTK, the Dutch parliamentary document platform, has rolled out significant improvements including clickable document references, alerts for question answers, and a much faster dossier search system.

OpenTK, the platform for accessing Dutch parliamentary documents, has received several substantial updates that make researching legislation and parliamentary proceedings significantly more efficient.

Enhanced Document Linking

The platform now automatically creates clickable links for document and case numbers (like 2026D09757 or 2026Z04244) when they appear in parliamentary documents. This builds on previous improvements where references to other parliamentary documents became clickable links. These enhancements make it much easier to navigate between related documents without manual searching.

Improved Written Question Interface

For written questions, OpenTK now displays direct links to any answers that have been provided. The interface has been simplified and streamlined, reducing duplicate data and making information more accessible. Users can now click a bell icon (🔔) to receive email notifications when answers to unanswered questions become available, eliminating the need to repeatedly check for updates.

Parliamentary documents are organized into dossiers - some covering entire legislative years, others focusing on specific organizations or laws. Dossiers for specific legislation (like dossier 36263 for the AIVD/MIVD cyberlaw) are particularly valuable as they collect all related documents in one place.

Previously, the dossier search page was slow and only showed the most recent 2,500 dossiers. The updated system now searches all dossiers since 2008 and provides instant results as you type, making it much more practical for researching how specific laws or regulations evolved.

Additional Improvements

Several smaller but useful changes have been implemented:

  • Vote results for motions are now displayed directly on the motion page
  • Voting times and dates are properly aligned for better readability
  • Motions now show whether they were adopted or rejected much earlier, though exact vote counts appear later

These updates make OpenTK a more powerful tool for journalists, researchers, and citizens tracking Dutch parliamentary activities. The platform continues to evolve based on user feedback, with the developer encouraging suggestions for further improvements.

The changes demonstrate how thoughtful interface design and automation can significantly reduce the friction in accessing public government information, making democratic processes more transparent and accessible to the public.
