Overview

Blockchain addresses are derived from public keys using cryptographic hashing. They function similarly to an email address or a bank account number.

Characteristics

  • Public: Can be shared freely with others to receive funds.
  • Case-Sensitive: In many blockchains (like Ethereum), addresses are case-sensitive.
  • Pseudonymous: While the address is public, the identity of the owner is not necessarily known.

Formats

  • Bitcoin: Starts with 1, 3, or bc1.
  • Ethereum: Starts with 0x.
