Overview

Gas wars occur during periods of extreme network congestion, typically during a highly anticipated NFT mint or a major token launch. Because block space is limited, users must outbid each other to have their transactions included in the next block.

Impact

  • Sky-high Fees: Transaction costs can spike from a few dollars to hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
  • Failed Transactions: Users who don't bid high enough may see their transactions fail, but they still lose the gas they spent.
  • Network Strain: Can make the network unusable for regular users during the event.
