Overview
Gateway Load Balancing Protocol (GLBP) improves upon HSRP and VRRP by allowing multiple routers in a group to actively forward traffic simultaneously, rather than having one active and others idle.
How it Works
- AVG (Active Virtual Gateway): Assigns virtual MAC addresses to each member of the group.
- AVF (Active Virtual Forwarder): Each router that is actively forwarding traffic for a specific virtual MAC.
- Load Balancing: The AVG responds to ARP requests for the virtual IP with different virtual MACs, distributing traffic among the AVFs.
