Overview

MIPS (Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipelined Stages) was one of the earliest and most influential RISC architectures. It was widely used in workstations, servers, and game consoles (like the Nintendo 64 and PlayStation).

Legacy

While less common in high-end computing today, MIPS remains popular in embedded systems, networking equipment (like routers), and as a teaching tool in computer architecture courses due to its clean and simple design.
