Framework has announced a wireless keyboard with integrated trackpad designed to outperform the popular but flawed Logitech K400 Plus, featuring a modular design, multi-device pairing, and customizable keys.
Framework, the company known for its modular laptops, has announced a new wireless keyboard with an integrated trackpad that aims to surpass the popular Logitech K400 Plus. The keyboard was unveiled alongside the Framework Laptop 13 Pro and shares the same membrane keyboard design found in the Framework Laptop 12, offering a 1.5mm key travel that Framework claims provides a first-class typing experience by laptop standards.
The most notable feature is the large multi-touch trackpad positioned to the right of the keyboard. Framework states that this trackpad is the biggest advantage compared to the Logitech K400 Plus ($29 on Amazon), which "everyone owns but nobody likes." The trackpad is said to come directly from a Framework Laptop but has been rotated into portrait format for this keyboard.
True to Framework's modular philosophy, the keyboard features a design that allows for customization and repairability. Users can connect the keyboard to their devices through multiple options: a USB cable, a USB-A dongle, or Bluetooth. The keyboard supports pairing with up to four devices simultaneously and can switch between them using a key combination.
One of the most interesting technical aspects is Framework's use of a Nordic nRF54L20 microcontroller combined with ZMK firmware. This setup allows each key to be programmed via a web interface, giving users unprecedented control over their keyboard layout and functionality.
The compact combination of keyboard with function keys and trackpad is particularly suited for use on a couch or in situations where a mouse is not a viable option. This makes it an attractive choice for media center setups or casual computing environments.
While Framework has not yet confirmed pricing or availability for the Wireless Touchpad Keyboard, the company has provided additional details on its website for those interested in learning more about this new peripheral.

The announcement comes as part of Framework's broader strategy to create a more sustainable and customizable computing ecosystem. By offering peripherals that match the quality and modularity of their laptops, Framework is positioning itself as a comprehensive solution for users who value repairability and customization.
This move directly challenges Logitech's dominance in the budget wireless keyboard market, particularly targeting users who have been dissatisfied with the K400 Plus's trackpad performance. If Framework can deliver on its promises of superior typing experience and trackpad functionality, it could represent a significant shift in the peripheral market, especially for users who prioritize quality and customization over the lowest possible price point.
