Huawei launches flatpack AI datacenters with Chinese chips globally, promising rapid deployment but facing performance and geopolitical challenges.
Huawei is expanding its global footprint in AI infrastructure by offering pre-packaged datacenters filled with its own chips, targeting markets outside China despite performance limitations compared to Western rivals. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Chinese tech giant unveiled its "Intelligent Computing Platform," which includes servers powered by its Kunpeng CPUs and Ascend GPUs, along with integrated storage and networking components.
The company claims it can deploy a complete AI datacenter in just four to six months—faster than competitors—thanks to its integrated approach to power, cooling, and cabling. Huawei also promises delivery of 1,024-node super-clusters within 15 days and 99.99 percent uptime through predictive fault detection systems.
However, independent tests suggest Huawei's hardware lags significantly behind established players. The Ascend GPUs reportedly perform below Intel and AMD's 5th-generation processors and trail Nvidia's 2022 Hopper architecture by a considerable margin.
