Motorola's Indian Edge 70 Fusion packs a larger battery and upgraded chipset compared to global models, featuring a 7,000 mAh cell and Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor.

The Motorola Edge 70 Fusion has officially launched in India, bringing with it some notable hardware upgrades that set it apart from its European counterpart. While we've already experienced the European version at MWC, the Indian model introduces several key differences worth examining.

Distinctive Indian Packaging and Design

The Indian retail box immediately stands out with its recycled materials construction and prominent FIFA World Cup 2026 branding, reflecting Motorola's official partnership with the tournament. Inside, you'll find the standard accessories: a charging cable, SIM ejector tool, documentation, and a 68W power adapter. Interestingly, Motorola's Indian website mentions a bundled protective case, though our review unit didn't include one. The phone also ships without a pre-applied screen protector.

Display Excellence

Front and center is the 6.8-inch "Extreme AMOLED" quad-curved display that immediately catches the eye. This 10-bit panel boasts a 2,772x1,272-pixel resolution with 450 ppi pixel density and an impressive 5,200 nits peak brightness. The display carries Pantone validation for both colors and skin tones, ensuring accurate reproduction across various content types.

The screen supports multiple refresh rates - 60Hz, 90Hz, 120Hz, and 144Hz - with three distinct modes in the settings: "Efficiency first" (up to 60Hz), "Smart and balanced" (up to 120Hz), and "Hyper smooth" (up to 120Hz with the highest battery consumption). The 144Hz mode is specifically reserved for gaming scenarios. Widevine L1 certification enables 1080p streaming on supported platforms, while HDR10, HDR10+, HLG, and Dolby Vision support ensure premium content looks its best.

Camera System

The camera setup features a squircle-shaped island housing four distinct elements. The primary 50MP shooter utilizes the Sony LYTIA 710 sensor with f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilization. The 13MP ultrawide camera offers a 120° field of view and doubles as a macro lens. A 3-in-1 ambient sensor and LED flash complete the array. Both the display and rear cameras carry Pantone validation for color accuracy.

Video capabilities include 4K recording at 30 FPS from the rear cameras, with 60 FPS limited to 1080p resolution. The 32MP front-facing camera, housed in a centered punch-hole, supports 1080p and 4K video at 30 FPS with an f/2.2 aperture.

Build Quality and Ergonomics

Available in three Pantone-certified colors - Blue Surf, Country Air, and Silhouette - the Indian model offers distinct aesthetic choices. The Blue Surf variant features a "linen-inspired finish" on the back panel, while the other two sport "nylon-inspired" textures. Each color variant includes unique accent colors around the camera island.

The quad-curved design extends to both the display and rear panel, creating a comfortable in-hand feel despite the substantial screen size. The plastic frames with matte finish include subtle curves for improved ergonomics. At 7.99mm thickness and 193g weight, the device maintains a relatively slim profile considering its large battery capacity.

Performance Hardware

Perhaps the most significant distinction for the Indian market is the chipset upgrade. While global versions typically feature the Snapdragon 7s Gen 3, the Indian model comes equipped with the newer Snapdragon 7s Gen 4. This is paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, with our review unit being the top-tier configuration.

The device ships with Android 16 out of the box, accompanied by Motorola's promise of three years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. Pre-installed applications are minimal, limited to Facebook, Instagram, and the Indus Appstore, with only the latter being non-removable.

Benchmark Performance

Our testing revealed competitive performance figures for the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 configuration:

  • GeekBench 6: Single-core scores around 1,035, multi-core around 2,941
  • AnTuTu 11: Approximately 1,137,028 points
  • 3DMark Wild Life Extreme: Around 1,210 points

These results position the Indian Edge 70 Fusion competitively within its segment, though slightly behind some Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 implementations in other devices like the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ and Poco M8 Pro, which achieve higher scores despite using the same chipset.

Gaming performance shows promise, with Motorola claiming support for 120 FPS in BGMI and 90 FPS in Call of Duty: Mobile. Our testing confirmed 120 FPS capability in games like Dead Trigger 2 and Sky Force Reloaded, though we couldn't verify the BGMI claim and observed Call of Duty: Mobile limited to 60 FPS.

Battery and Charging

The headline feature for the Indian market is undoubtedly the massive 7,000mAh battery, a significant upgrade from the 5,200mAh cell found in European models. This capacity increase maintains the slim 7.99mm profile while delivering exceptional endurance.

Charging performance is equally impressive. Motorola claims 50% charge in 30 minutes, but our testing exceeded expectations:

  • 32% in 15 minutes
  • 50% in 28 minutes
  • 53% in 30 minutes
  • 96% in 1 hour
  • 100% in 1 hour and 7 minutes

This charging speed outpaces several competitors in the segment, including the Edge 60 Fusion and Redmi Note 15 Pro+.

Additional Features

The device carries comprehensive durability certifications including IP68 and IP69 ratings for water and dust resistance, plus MIL-STD-810H military standard certification. Audio is handled by stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos support, while the display offers wet touch functionality. NFC support is included for contactless payments and other proximity-based features.

Pricing and Availability

Three memory configurations are available in India:

  • 8GB/128GB: ₹26,999 ($295/€255)
  • 8GB/256GB: ₹29,999 ($325/€280)
  • 12GB/256GB: ₹32,999 ($360/€310)

The phone goes on open sale starting March 12 through Motorola's official Indian website, Flipkart, and major retail stores nationwide.

Market Context

The Indian Edge 70 Fusion represents an interesting strategic choice by Motorola, offering a larger battery and upgraded chipset specifically for this market. This approach addresses Indian consumers' preference for long battery life while maintaining competitive pricing. The device competes in a crowded mid-range segment but differentiates itself through its combination of display quality, battery capacity, and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 processor.

For consumers prioritizing battery life and display quality in a mid-range package, the Edge 70 Fusion presents a compelling option, particularly given its competitive pricing and comprehensive feature set.
